OK, I admit I'm the laziest chess player ever, have never taken the time to learn openings and it clearly shows in this game. In fact I was about to resign right after my opponent's 4th move! (first time for everything). Then I remembered reading somewhere that if you get into serious trouble early on you might as well try to complicate things or launch a wild attack that may throw your opponent off. So having nothing to lose (I considered the game already lost) I decided to see how long I could survive. Since my rating was 1239 and my opponents was 1259 I figured, why not? I mean he might make a critical mistake at one point like I did. And maybe with a bit of luck I can even draw. You never know, right? I'm sure my approach would not be sound at higher levels but now I know that anything's possible against an equally lower rated player.
As it turned out, this was my greatest comeback ever. Needless to say, I'm more than glad I didn't quit. I'm actually proud that I was not only able to win, but that it also resulted in my quickest win ever - and with black! This is why I'm posting it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. J
Since the game is short I'm including a lot of my thinking process in the comments. I'm no expert so my assessment is probably flawed but things worked out for me this time.
btw, the rematch that immediately followed where I played with white was just as open-less and sneaky. Maybe I'll post that one later on...
hey, does anyone know why a game's pgn shows the adjusted player ratings after the game ends instead of what they were when the game started?
