The latest position by iamawsam is pretty normal actually,
In one of Levy's guess the elos there was an en passant mate, although I cant find that now

This mate is insane. Has anyone had an almost-smothered mate where the king's escape squares are blocked all by pieces, none of them pawns, and the king's not even in the corner?

Yes, weird checkmates seem to be much more prevalent the closer the opposing king is to the center of the board.
