Post your Best Miniatures here Part 2

For all the king's gambit enthusiasts... I love the king's gambit too - for black.

Obviously white's last move was a blunder. After 23.Rd1 Bxd4+ black is only slightly better. But this game shows some cool tactics. I like this line for black. Black voluntarily gives back the extra pawn and accepts a worse pawn structure in order to get good placement for the pieces, and then bothers white all the across the board.

Completely outplayed in a Bullet game today.

This is just a crushing victory...definitely an R-rating for violence:

This is not even a joke, i actually beat LEVEL 7 of the chess.com computer like this! Ok, the bloody engine didn't resign, but still. up a piece in 13 moves.

FerreverYoung

Not the most accurate game ever played, but we're both under 1000 so what do you expect haha

gchess33

An interesting Bullet game that I lost on time. Such a pity I did not play quickly enough.

gchess33

A nice Bullet game where my opponent missed a tactic and I capitalized quickly.

Due to the excessive length of the previous thread some people were probably thinking this is long over due so here is a new thread for you guys to post up.

A miniature is a game that has a maximum of 25 moves (I don't mind if you go one or two moves over as long as its in the spirit of a miniature)

If you haven't already, you should post in the original thread to say you started this one. Right now people are posting games in both.

FortunaMajor

I think the other one is more active.

This is a game I played recently in chess.com. It is a blitz (5|5) game.

I did post up in the other thread when I started this one a year ago....

Here's one from the future when my man M. Tal emerges from beyond the grave and challenges Mangus to a psychic duel. The moon God is a lot faster than the slow moving sun God and that is shown here. From their 2021 match.

Today with Chess.com, I have played one game against a player named "Sacrifice your queen" and I have succeeded to sacrifice my queen for the gain of the game !  I was happy to find a combination so fun as that.

11.Qxg6+

I lost this game, but it's a real beauty. My opponent played extremely well. This game encapsulates everything that a miniature should be. It's 26 moves, but definitely worth posting. This is chaos on the board!!

Really enjoyed this game! I'm curious about something though! You said you played 16... Qb4 with the intent of trading Queens. Certainly 17. Bd6! was an unpleasant surprise, but I'm curious as to why you didn't follow through with your plan and play 17... Qxb3

Robhad
Glad you enjoyed the game!

In hindsight, 17...Qxb3 was probably objectively the best way to salvage the position for me. See some possible lines below. The reason why I didn't go for it is because it leads to a position where white has a decent advantage and black can do little other than defend. At that point I still had hope that I could come out of this crazy position with some type of advantage or winning chances, but my opponent played too well and I ended up getting crushed.

"21. Qd5!!Extremely strong! This move does everything at once - defends the mate threat, defends the rook on d1, attacks the rook on a8, attacks the knight on d7... Just spectacular. (21. Bxg7+ Kxg7 22. Kxf1 (22. Ne6+ Kf6 23. Kxf1 Rc8) 22... Qxg5 23. Rxd7 Qf4 24. a4 Rc8I was expecting a continuation like this, where I like my position, but my opponent found a much better alternative) 21... Rf8A sad move to have to make."

Sorry to rain on your parade (or your opponent's parade?), but 21...Rf8 was absolutely not forced, and you missed two much better defenses: 21...Bxg2! and 21...Qxg2+! 22.Qxg2 Bxg2.

I could post the variations that arise after each (no engine, just from my head), but the chess teacher in me wants to leave it as an exercise for you to work out. As far as I can see, the best white can do in both lines is make his way to a pawn-up endgame, while walking a very narrow path to avoid losing altogether.

You are right, 21...Bxg2 is the best move, but white can still retain and huge advantage with 22.Qxd7 Qxd7 23.Rxd7 gxf6 and now 24.Ne6 win the exchange.

In both cases black is losing but fighting with an exchange down is much better then the game continuation, where black is instantly routed after 21...Rf8? 22.Be7!

Yes, but I'm not sure you saw the best defense for black or the best response for white. After 21...Bxg2 22.Qxd7 Qxd7 23.Rxd7 gxf6 24.Ne6, black has 24...Bh3! I actually thought this leads to an equal endgame after 25.f8=Q+ Rxf8 26.Nxf8 Bxd7 27.Nxd7 (and I thought white should play 24.Nxh7! instead of 24.Ne6 to win a pawn). BUT- now I see that after 24...Bh3 white plays 25.Rxa7! and then does win the exchange.

So 21...Bxg2 or 21...Qxg2+ (which transposes) does lose. But white might not have found the optimal response on a practical game.
