Refuting the Caro Kann

Sort:
shuttlechess92

Ok sorry I mislead you with the title. I have not refuted the Caro Kann. I won't even claim that I found any significant advantage in the opening. But the win is in the Caro Kann... so anyways, here it is

Great Game!Very instructive!

Shuttlechess im sure i have saw you play against ChessEducator(ChessNetWork in youtube)... in fics..

dschaef2

Haha I was all like Oh it's another "what is the refutation to X major opening??" thread.

Nice game!  And people think the CK is boring...

shuttlechess92

thanks all :)

FINALLY! I've been ranting on and on to my team about how much I LOATHE the Caro Kann and how much I think it sucks, and now I've got someone to back me up! Good job man!

shuttlechess92

unfortunately, I dont' really think it's that bad. It's actually an extremely deep strategic weapon almost completely breathing the principles of My System (a la Nimzowitsch). There's no questioning why strategic greats such as Anatoly Karpov and Viswanathan Anand have used it often with success.

EternalHope

Well, I just challenged him to a game. Here's his chance to back it up.

PHS_Captain

In all honesty, its been forever since I actually played against somebody who used the Caro Kann, and I just went back and checked out all my notation for games in which my opponent had used the Caro Kann, and my system is VERY similar to yours, and the people I was playing against weren't that good anyway. So my point is, I still REALLY don't like the Karo Cann, but perhaps my opinion that it sucks was based more on the games that I'd played against it than the actual history of the opening. I just always assumed that what I did against the Karo Cann had some sort of fatal flaw, and that's why when Grandmasters have used and still use it they do just fine, so perhaps my method is only valid at certian levels of competiton.

Well, I guess I'll get the chance to find out, courtesy of EternalHope

And yes, before anybody else says it, I DO have a tendency to ramble. Concisely, what I'm trying to say is that I'm probably a giant buffoon, and have based my current opinion on the Caro Kann on the games that I've played against it; games from a long time ago, and with rather sub-par opponents.

I just really hope that I don't get challenges from every single Caro Kann user on the site trying to prove me wrong. Bear in mind that I'm basically saying that I'm probably wrong so please don't bite my head off!

psyduck

I know you just put the title for attention. but really, isn't the caro-kann the most solid opening there is (look at combined draw/win percentage for black in databases)?

shuttlechess92

thanks RainbowRising :)

@psyduck: yup... if you read the other stuff I wrote you'll see that I in no way disagree with it.

Please_no_more_chess

I am lost LMAO

You missed 34. Qd7# Wink.  But good game, overall.  I personally prefer GM Dzindzichashvili's recommendation, but this seems like a viable alternative.  Thanks!

2 nice games :) Nice win J.L.

Now we all need a chessable course with 6937 lines full of caro kann refutation.

Badchesserrr4486999

I'd lowkey study that 69 times and remember it all.

Badchesserrr4486999

But honestly the caro kann is the bane of our existence we seriously gotta smash it.

AngryPuffer

3.Nf6 tends to produce slower games which can be very drawish even if opposite side castling

but there is the very annoying h5 line by black which can give him actual play if white is not careful

AngryPuffer

3.Nf6 is the reason i believe the caro is playable by black
