Underpromotion to Knight

Sort:

This is a game which I played, in which I determined that 26... d1=N was the strongest move. Comments?

computerrat

Bf5+ then d1=Q wins a rook instead

jbzdarkid

But 27. Kc2 D1=Q+ 28. Kxc3 Qxf1 loses the knight.

Instead of 28...Qxf1 try Qc2#

jbzdarkid

28... Qc2+ 29. Rxc2

What?

It's a game which I played in which I considered a knight promotion to be the strongest move. However, I generally question my logic, and was wondering if anyone saw this differently.

oinquarki

No I mean where did that rook in post #5 come from? Are we looking at the same variation?

idk something like this?  didn't spend a ton of time on it so theres prob something wrong with the Kxc3 variation on 1st move

oinquarki, you still didn't answer how to respond to Rf1xc2.

jbzdarkid

Yeah, I see I was wrong. Shocker.

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

2. Kxc3 Rbc8 3. Nxd2?
Given the coming check, perhaps 3.Kb2 or 3.Kb3 and some desperate block of the d-pawn.
