I think someone has to hit the offer draw button for it to come into effect!

Someday they'll write the laws of chess down...someday.

PalashD

he could have made it six

No. 50 moves without either side capturing a piece or moving a pawn is a draw (if either player claims).

Obviously one side was moving pawns here.

gg32

he should of had 6 queens so he gave you a chance stop whingingCry

Ok guys its enongh. I am sure he has learnt his lesson. I mean come on people! he is just a kid. Lets not talk on the subject any more Sealed.

Why you don't resign

I was just screwing around as he was a low rated played. A lot of people was gathered around and I was showing off and lost a piece.

Point is, you make mistakes. Why not your opponet too?

kokakola

I personally like to mate hopeless non-resigners with pawns. If they feel it's sportsmanlike to move their lone king against an army, then it's sportsmanlike enough to mate them with pawns. But this example also gives me an idea :)

goldendog

Maybe the OP has come around by now, or perhaps not. I wonder if he still thinks he was right.

TheOldReb

I dont understand why a chess coach ( especially a titled coach ) would ever teach a student that they should NEVER resign ?!  Do any here, who teach, do that ?

Whipster

I've a 'never say die' mentality myself, so I hardly ever resign, but even I would have in that game after he reached the position with only Kings and pawns (and him being a Bishop up).

Whipster

His opponent EJ_dirst is actually on my friends list.

I was thinking about that very question lately in regard to this thread. I assume there is a hybrid reason in this case: 1) He wants his 560 USCF student to always be trying, calculating, and to nurture a fighting spirit, and 2) He was a bit lazy in not explaining when giving up is the reasonable course of action.

Of course, there is virtually nothing to learn by dodging multiple queens with your lone king. The time spent doing this teaches nothing and alienates the other human (probably) in our social game--that's a bad idea. If the OP had taken the time wasted in his game and instead studied some K+P v K, he might have actually learned something useful.

This is a lost chance, really. I mean, he's got 8 pieces -- he should have gone for 1 queen, 2 bishops, 2 knights and 2 rooks, and arrange them appropriately...

LOL. The funniest thing I've heard all day!!!!OMG!

ChessMastora

I think there's some ideological conflict going on here, Eastern people like the Chinese and Japanese fight to the last man- demonstrated during the Japanese invasion of China and when the Americans were 'island hopping'; Western people have an idea of conserving forces by surrendering (and hopefully regain that conserved energy by recapturing the land-sorta like rematch) , demonstrated by prisoner statistics.

NOT RESIGNING IS UNSPORTSMANLIKE!

Garymossu

AND HE WAS TRYING TO TEACH YOU AN IMPORTANT LESSON IN LIFE!

Admit the truth!
