My son turned 12 this January and downloaded your app about 2 weeks or so ago. He has since displayed a remarkable aptitude for this timeless game and I was wondering if he might be worthy of a look by people who may know better what scale of talent I may be facing here. His user name is theoristensteim and his record to date vs human players is 13 wins 1 loss. He has also beaten the AI on grandmaster setting without really breaking a mental sweat.

I don't think anyone can tell you. It seems like he is off to a good start.

Rapid ratings are inflated and after looking at his profile I would say he is ok but not an incredible talent. Just your average player who can beat beginners but nothing special. Sorry to let you down. Most young players of his age already have master titles. His loss was to a 1600 which is about 1300 in real chess which is beginner class.

"Most" people at 12 don't have master titles.... very few do. I would say he is just an average player.

Also, I can't find his profile.

If.you click on the original poster you will see a game against his/her son and you can go to his profile from there. When I said most 12 year olds already have a master title I was talking about young people with incredible talent.

Well, it is good that he is interested in chess! Just encourage him and he will be even better.

Definitely way above average and if he is 12 that's a good understanding to have of the game already. How long has he been playing chess?

If he is average at 1860 rating what are you at 1300?
