Okay okay. If you want to talk about chess in OTF, let's get this over with quickly. Openings are a matter of taste, pick an opening that puts you in a position to succeed. (don't take that out of context 😬) Saying that one opening is 'better' than another without relating it to one person's strengths is just incorrect. I personally prefer playing 1.d4, but that doesn't mean you have to.

Hi @theeldest1 !
I didn't realize your chess ratings were so high!
Congratulations.
Regarding 1) d4 I have long thought its the best first move - but that doesn't mean that its the easiest or most practical.
It runs into replies like the Benko Gambit.
(is the idea to 'solve problems' or 'enter into problems'? Its both probably.
But the second one is very popular.)
--------------
I play 1) Nf3. But not a Reti. If black replies d5 I'm not playing c4.
Got a notion that Nf3 and Nf6 are actually the most important moves for each side in the early going.
-------------------
In opening play in master chess - 1) Nf6 is played by black more than all the other 19 move options combined.
But with white 1) Nf3 is only #3 behind e4 in first place and d4 in 2nd place.
Why is e4 #1 ? Many reasons are given but the main one is apparently to make black think twice about opening with Nf6.
That doesn't explain d4 being in second place though.
But - when the first four moves by white are looked at - Nf3 is played more than e4 or d4.
It is the leader.
