10 Personality Disorders of Chess Players

Sort:

This list is cr#ap. Each individual is different and is unique. You can't put everybody in a single box.

This above list of OP is however true to some extent for the past 16 World Champions and other famous and strong players. It doesn't apply to casual players like the 99.9999% of the people here who play chess for fun and enjoyment and just enjoy throwing pieces around.

Chess is sexy. When I was young and successful in chess "Dire Straits" sang "rating for nothin' and chicks for free" evil.png

For research purposes, everyone belong to a box or group. Even the solitary and outcast.

I wish I was! Although I did love my real uncles.

What's with the lists lately that only include objectionable types?

I agree that chess players include a greater than average percentage of people with poor social skills and the high school chess club I ran included a small number of people that took criticism or mild teasing so personally I had to ban anything that didn't project a "positive attitude."

But among my club members were the captain and other members of the football team - who played chess through the winter and we tended to have more girls, cheerleaders, etc. show up during those months.  The athletes were more socially confident, were not bullies, and they gave many of the chess teens at boost of social confidence by their friendliness and because they wanted to learn to win from the players who considered themselves nerds.

I do not believe that hey are disorders stemming from chess. It can be considered an academic pursuit and a job of played well enough. Those so-called disorders are people who want to reach that point.

I believe chess is attractive to these disordered personality. These disorders appeared in childhood... before playing chess.

I feel like you're trying to validate the rather shonky psychiatric industry by associating it with this great gamehappy.png

People can be weird good and weird bad or a mixture and chess endures. People that like chess at least have that going for them.

And all types of weirdness go in and out of favour, look at what a freak Charles Darwin was considered in his time.

Old bong711: So now you are a Psycho-babbler too! What the whole world of chess coming to!!! Lol

bong711

I'm not spamming. I'm not related with the psychiatric business or pharmaceutical industry. It's temporary only 😎

Why are most of the threads about non-chess related issues? This is psychology field.  Any of you people(poster) is specialized in psycho-babbling(psychology)?

Maybe you are and trying to trap patients. What do I know after all.

*gigles out loud*  psychiatry IS a self perpetuating industry, they have to raise insecurities to create new clients and keep their treatments relevant. But bubbly social interaction can be fun, can it not; have been studying chess for a couple of hours today so I just wanted to chat to people, maybe Bong does too  (*'v'*)   At least it's not Face Schmook

All chess could be boring.
