As the thread doesn't specify now,
I will give one reason why checkers is better that chess (stolen from some yahoo answer) 
:
"Most people are terrible at checkers, but they don't care because it's a game for little kids and old men. I actually prefer playing checkers rather than chess against strangers because chess attracts a lot more people who are either weirdos or hygienically challenged--or worse."
