1000s still be hanging backranks?
He played it in 6 seconds, too. Some of y'all need to get out of the blitz headspace when you play rapid.
It’s never too late.
Even Magnus lost a queen exchange for a rook against Wesley today due to a back rank threat/tactic.
I wouldn’t be condescending about it especially when the best player in the world is prone to back rank tactics.
Would say simple one or two move combinations are what decide a majority of the games I play, and I'm 700pts higher rated. Mistakes don't go away, they just decrease in frequency (obviously longer time controls help, but still)

I'm not trying to be as condescending about the back rank itself, moreover the fact he hung it in a move that he spent 6 seconds on when he had 7 minutes left on the clock. It just confused me a lot

I apologize for putting you on the spot.
Poor Time management is a real thing. I picked up that bad habit from playing too much blitz and bullet, then migrating back to rapid. On the flip side before that, I was a slow player even for rapid, so I forced my self to play blitz with goals of calculating faster and experimenting new openings.
Either way, it works in your favour.

Even better - I once forgot fully about the Fool's mate on one of my games (can't remember, I think it was two years ago) for some unknown reason while I was trying to start with weird openings. I suddenly realised that I forgot to open up more air for the king.
My opponent (who was a regular local opponent of mine) ironically missed the move. He then realised that he missed that one shock opportunity.
The game proceeded normally afterwards.

He must have forgotten that the rook could attack the back rank. If you notice very closely, all the squares around e8 were guarded, but surprisingly e8 itself was unguarded. Your opponent probably assumed that all the squares there were guarded before finally moving the knight.
