I’ve had my chess.com account for a little over 2 months now, and in those 2 months I’ve managed to cross 1500 in Rapid Elo, including a month-long period or so where I dropped all the way from 1460 to 1320 in just a few days and then worked for nearly a full month to regain that Elo. I’ve had a bit of chess experience before, playing online here and there, but wasn’t really into it the way I am now until late October of this year, when I made this account and began playing seriously. I feel like reaching 1500 Elo in 2 months is noticeably faster than most other chess players (I’ve even heard that most players will NEVER reach 1500 which i believe because as it stands my 1502 Elo puts me in the 97.5% percentile of players online). My question is, given my early success in my chess career, how attainable/realistic is it to reach 2000 Elo by this time next year?
I’m no prodigy, but I have always been known to be a very fast learner, and am typically not far from being the smartest person in any given room. Not to sound cocky, but this makes me almost unsurprised that I had a much easier time reaching 1500 Elo than the vast majority of people. I watch a lot of videos, and study a lot of openings/fundamentals/patterns/endgames, usually for at least a few hours a day; the majority of the free time i have is usually spent on YouTube watching these things.
So I pose my question again: Is 1500 to 2000 Elo in one year realistic for me? If not, what about 1900? 1800?
Hopefully there’s people out there that had a similar beginning to me that can offer their input of how the next year of their chess career went.
