Apart from its usage in OTB tournaments, the Rapid format is predominately favoured by beginners who do not yet feel comfortable with shorter time controlls.

However, especially online most advanced players prefer Blitz games which is self-evident on chess.com.

Most players start out with longer time controls and quickly transition as soon as they have gained enough experience, that's how it was for me, as well.

Anyways, 1600 is a nice achievement. How long did it take you? What preferred openings do you play?

Not sure why. Nobody cares about blitz and bullet ratings. Get that rapid rating up to 1600+ and then post about it.

Say that AFTER you get 1600 in blitz, bullet and rapid.

Very true. I started off in blitz and went from about 700 to 1550 in blitz inside about 6 months and I then platued at 1500 for the next 3 months or so, and I had always heard improving players should to transition to Rapid to develop much needed foundation knowledge, have time to think, calculate, etc - so I shifted onto Rapid, but to my surprise, I found Rapid to be a bit tricky because I was accustomed to playing blitz moves relying on intuition and still didnt use the time to calculate or play "properly" even with the extra time (because I had no experience of doing that before), and often finished games with more time than I started with!!... so as you said, I was still playing Rapid games like they were blitz. I'm improving now, but I still struggle with thinking moves through and still often too heavily rely on instinct.

I started playing in summer of 2018 and have been playing non stop since then. My account says I started a few months earlier for some reason but I didn't. Was making quite quick progress but plateaued at 1500 for about 6 months so nice to finally hit this milestone.

Nice work! I'm a beginner, I hope i can get to 1600 eventually. I would be really happy too. Don't let the strong grumpy players take anything away your accomplishment. wink.png jk strong players.

My first big goal was 1300. I thought "if I ever make it that high, I'll quit playing, because at that point I'll be an amazing player"

So yeah, 1600 is very good, and new players will surely see the OP as an invincible chess machine.

1000 is my first goal, not otb, but i'd still be happy with 1000 on chess.com, i don't have any clubs or anything nearby.

Haha so true, a 1600 might as well be stockfish 11 or A0 compared to me.

@Blundermaster You'll be amazed how quickly your rating will skyrocket if you continue to play Blitz. Just analyze your games and keep running your moves/openings over in your head. You are gonna be a machine in no time.

Thank you it feels hopeless at times but i do feel myself getting better, I've analyzed almost every game I've played (although i do repeat mistakes a lot more than i'd like to admit). But I appreciate the encouragement, i really needed that.

Also quick question, how do you tag people like that with the @?, so i don't have to fill up the chat with redundant quotes.

Avatar of st0ckfish

just write @ before the person's username happy.png
