Thats not true, if it is an open game you want bishops over knights. It depends on how the game is going at that point in time.

tip 1; Do not allow knights to linger on the board. Letting a knight sit in your sphere of influence is a no-no. Trade knights for bishops no problemo especially if one is sitting all around your world. Tip 2: Dont allow pins to your knights. early in the game play h6 or a6 as black to avoid a pin of your knights.
