Maybe the Ukrianian players are affected by the political situation in their home country, they have played terribly here. Against the much lower rated Uzbeks they turned two much better or winning positions into losses.
2014 Chess Olympiad (Tromsø)
Shankland has been our best guy so far, although he has been playing 2300s and IMs more often than GMs. I am hesitant to criticize Nakamura, because he had such terrible travel problems and is probably tired and jetlagged, butI will say it's probably easier for Shankland to get fired up about this event than it is for Nakamura or Kamsky. Is it reasonable to say the US team has been a slight disappointment so far?
Lately it's usually a white win in the games between Topalov and Kramnik, and today was no exception. Baramidze recently drew with black against Kramnik and Pono in Dortmund, but today he lost against a Qatari in the 2300s and Germany only got a draw in the match.
Kramnik said after the game that Topalov has quite a catastrophic score against him, but it's not too bad, 11-15 in wins. Says a bit about both how uneven and dangerous Topalov can be, Kasparov only won four games against Kramnik, while Anand has nine this far, so eleven wins is quite impressive.
Topalov can't have been in a good mood after losing to Kramnik but had nothing against doing interviews after the game, declaring that his sympathies in the tournament were with Ukraine.
Yes, with white both seem to win, I read someone referring part of what he said on Twitter without including mentioning colours.
Perunovic just crushed Radjabov, not easy to do that in his Schliemann, players like Carlsen, Anand and Topalov have tried several times without succeeding.
Here is Kramnik's gorgeous win over Topalov from the ongoing Olympiad (I got the PGN from en.chessbase.com and tweaked it a bit):
Is there still bad blood between Kramnik and Topolov?
Topalov is still acting like a baby, yes.
So Canada drew their match against the USA... good show! It looked for a while like an even bigger upset was in the making.
"The day after tomorrow (which is a rest day) we will get Caruana–Carlsen!"
Tough draw for Carlsen, in spite of Norway not doing all that well he gets two blacks in a row against 2800+ opponents. Russia gets a good draw against Uzbekistan, with an FM and IM in the team.

Oh, Im sure they're good friends by now. They probably send each other greeting cards....
cursing at each other & various well thought out insults. Probably prank call each other too. Quite possibly with a few yo momma jokes thrown in there.
Mate in 21 for Shankland.
