2300 rapid id already be there but I prefer blitz lol those games must be a mess(don't forget to analyze your wins and not just your losses you have to do both)

Lol what makes you think you can reach 2300 when you can't stay in 2100? Rapid ratings also become harder the achieve compared to blitz after around 2200. 2300 rapid is already more impressive then 2300 blitz

This is 100% true, 2300 rapid is super impressive, especially while playing 15 + 10 instead of 10 + 0 like the vast majority of players in the pool.

It is impressive but that isn't harder to get than 2100 blitz acualy I have seen multiple people 2300 rapid but only 2100 -2200 blitz (btw they play primarily blitz )

BigChessplayer665

2300 is still a huge accomplishment though

Nice job 👏

Man, nice wish I could play at that level.

So do I ! 2300 seems a long way off again at the moment.

My first thought was that I needed to stop playing 'secondary' openings which I do because I don't have a great memory for lots of theory so I have always avoided main lines. But when I look at my analysis graphs, I am generally okay at the end of the opening so I am now thinking that chess opening choice is not THAT important after all. It is much more important to simply get into the type of position that you like.

I would love to know how a good chess coach would go about improving players stuck at what feels like their ceiling. I have followed all of the usual advice.

Is this really my ceiling ??

I would recommend trying different time controls everyone gets stuck but things like blitz chess is really helpful for rapid cause it builds intuition and helps find those easy moves quicker

Bullet =speed and time management (really good for converting endgames fast if low on time )

Blitz =fast thinking and pattern recognition

Rapid =better thinking

(Ps: if you want I could play a couple 10|5 or 15|10 games )

Ideally, I would like to play 30 minutes but it is pretty much impossible to get paired. I have always shied away from Blitz and Bullet because I don't like to play without proper calculation. It is interesting though how prolific streamers such as Levy and Hikaru seem to have improved in classical chess.

I might try a few anonymous games - I am slightly worried about having a reasonably high (and honest) Rapid rating and a stupidly lower Blitz rating which I always think looks suspicious in opponents.

You can try lichess, maybe you'll get pairings there.

Update: I hit 2300 rapid today. Perhaps not in the most civilized way (I won all 3 games on time), but I'll take it!

Santoy

It gave me great pleasure to touch the bar but I have been struggling to stay at 2250 ever since. I can't seem to get back there.

HolographWars

I probably won't be playing rapid for a decent while since I don't have any intention of trying to climb another hundred rating - 2200 to 2300 took two whole months of hard grinding. I'm also not playing in an otb tournament in a long time, so from now on I'll only play some speed chess for fun.

Have you analyzed your games and found out your weaknesses? It definitely helps if you know someone (like a coach) that can look over your games. My friend and I have been analyzing each other's games very frequently, and we've both gained over 200 rating since we started training together. We found out that I needed to improve strategically while he needed to improve tactically, so we curated our study strategies to those objectives.

Santoy

I think that it has helped my game having a serious target and disciplined analysis after each game.

One problem is that waiting for a 15|10 game for over 2300 frequently takes over 10 minutes so I have had to relax my opponent rating range to get a game. This means that I am nearly always playing weaker players with very few points for a win but big drop for a loss.

Very frustrating because whenever I finally give up and play on 'the other site', I always get paired quickly.

@49 blitz is always the answer isn't it? LOL!
