Hi everyone, i read Maza's book and it touched my heart because  I was losing a lot of games because I was realy weak with tactics. I done John Bain's tactic book 7 times and when i started i had a 1300 icc rating and it got me to 1500+ icc rating. it was a tactic book with 1-2 move combinations. Then I proceeded to do Winning chess tactics for juniors , which is 1-2-3 move combinations. I increased to 1707 icc rating now. I am a firm believer that tactics is the way to go. My question is I need to find 2 good follow up tactic books that has 3-5 moves and so on with testimony of your experience with doing the 7 circes with tactic books to get to 1800+ rating?

Didn't he (Maza) say he used CT Art? (I'm too lazy to check my book) http://chessok.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_3_48&products_id=318

For paper book, The Complete Chess Workout by Palliser has lots of puzzles.

i have Nunn's tactics book and can recommend it. the puzzles in the chapters start easy for warm up and get very tricky. he also explains the solutions very well. only, I don't know if it's a follow up book to the ones you read before, because I don't know the level of them.

the problem i have with Nunn's book is that it gets tricky fast. the books i done so far are more for 1300-1700 rated players. seems like all other books are for 1800+ rated players. its hard to find a good in between book. here is a clear example. i have done winning tactics for juniors , which are 1-2-3 move combinations. say from a range of 1400-1600 rating. then same author has a follow up book called combination challenge, thats geared for players of 1800+. it has up to 7 move combinations. A players that finishes the junior book is stuck once he is at the 1600-1800 level , their are no middle tactic book to bridge the gap betwwen the difficulty of problems in the 2 books.

I think Nunn's tactic book is more for 1500+ rated players. I'm not this level yet (I'm probably around 1200 Elo) and can solve a lot of the problems. I plan to come back to the ones I couldn't solve later. It will be a nice indicator how much I'll have improved. I also heard the Polgar book "Chess: 5334 Problems, Combinations, and Games" shall be very good. Unfortunately I couldn't get a copy yet, but its for a wide rating range.

i hear everyone saying try this or that book, but are there anyone who actually done the books they suggest and how much did the book help in increasing ratings? Like in my 1st post i told everyone the books, how many times i done them and a beginning and end rating after each book.

tactics alone wont make u reach this level

even if u finished ur 7 circles

there are things other than tactics would make u reach this level

and its not opening nor strategy

its somethings i cant explain but it come with experience
