#36 how can you do that? I am intrigued!

i just go on the stockfish on chess.com and put in the position and see what it says.

JustOneUSer
Fair enough. Which stock fish version?
gingerninja2003

 stockfish 8

JustOneUSer
Okay.
JustOneUSer
So your money is on the bishops?
gingerninja2003

engines like to get the bishop pair.

gingerninja2003

in normal games

JustOneUSer
Perhaps you should try it under both black and white, eg. 4 bishops under white, 4 Knights under black, and then 4 bishops under black and 4 Knights under white, just to be sure we get an accurate reading.
JustOneUSer
So you just did it?

Well that's a bit of a bummer.

But I feel at lower levels in guts would be stronger.
gingerninja2003

i will. white will get a slight bias anyway because it goes first.

gingerninja2003

i'm gonna do it now

gingerninja2003

four knights white vs four bishops black. it said -0.62 (black has an advantage.)

four bishops white vs four knights black is a shocking +1.30 (winning for white.)

engines love those bishops.

gingerninja2003

four knights white vs normal black 0.00 (exactly equal)

four bishops white vs normal black +0.93 (white is winning)

JustOneUSer
So it has a disadvantage. Wow.

Even against normal black board! Shocking! I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles.
gingerninja2003

keep in mind that against two average or below players that the knights could be a useful tool but objectively not as good.

JustOneUSer
True. But I have to say I am genuinely surprised but the result.
FortunaMajor

The four bishops are useless if all of them are same colored.

JustOneUSer
The terms of our original comment- the bishops replace the Knights.

This includes position. You have 2 for each colour.

Yeah, which is why you can't really use them to evaluate a starting position like that. They can literally have a bonus for bishops coded into it. Just like when you get a late mid game positions the engine says are winning but there's no way to avoid various simple drawn endgames... they're even more unreliable in the starting position.

What are "knighits?"
