50 move rule

Don't you get annoyed by players who don't accept draws on the basis of the rule and just keep on pushing their only mobile piece(s) around the board with no real prospect of a result, except winning on time. Even when both sides have lots of time, or, even worse, are picking up increments.

Personally, I think 50 moves is too generous, especially in Blitz. It could be cut to 20 moves without affecting the outcome of more than a tiny proportion of games. And it would save the boredom and annoyance of playing online against morons who think that winning on time in a drawn position is worth anything

Cool story.

Rules are rules! But 20 moves may be too short

From a worst possible situation, winning positions like K+B+N vs. K and K+Q vs. K+R take MORE than 20 moves to be actually won. So it is necessary to increase the count up to at least 50, otherwise there will be too many draws.

winning on time is something from a drawn position. The time factor accounts for how long it took both individuals to get to the same point. If your opponent takes half the time to draw you then it is more likley he or she would win had he or she the whole time alloted. Just more likely, which is what ratings are about. Measuring likely hood of success.
