i play the french like 90% of the time against e4 and QGD against d4 (classical cambridge springs) like 80% with the scillian najdorf and semi-slav as backups...as white id say i start with d4 75-90% of the time, e4 against lower rated opponents or people ive played a few times who know my d4 setups

yes, I play the same tactic: 1. E4

Interesting post. Although if I played the KG I definately wouldn't play The Grand Prix (yes, I am going to call it by it's proper name Smile) against the Sicilian as they are completely different animals. I also don't think by playing the same 2 moves against everything you are by any means cutting down on any work. IMO Learning something more appropriate to your style like 1. e4 c5 2. d4 would still be an entirely different opening to 1. e4 e5 2. f4, like 1. e4 c5 2. f4 is.

But, there's of course no reason why at our level playing 1. e4 2. f4 shouldn't lead to reasonable middlegame positions.. I just won't be converting any time soon. Smile

Sorry, but what are you on about?

I have been a devout 1.e4 player for many many years but have experimented more lately with some other ideas(which remain undisclosed for now).

I think this is a good idea overall, the only question I have is 'do you lose a feel for the game when playing the same opening?'
