A good computer mouse for blitz?

Hello,

I've noticed in Blitz chess that the quality of your mouse is important.  And since the one I'm currently using is broken I need to get a new one.  Anyone know of a solid mouse to get that doesn't mess up or lag?  I currently have, and have heard that, optical mouses with wires are the way to go as laser mouses can track too much if you lift the mouse and trackball mouses aren't good at all.  The speed of the mouse matters as well.... faster is better.  I don't have too much money and will try to keep it below 40-50$..... Anyone have any suggestions for Specific Models/Companies that they actually use or have tested for blitz?  Preferably something I could pick up at a local store such as Officemax or Staples.

Yeah, I hated the battery powered mouse I had. First of all you have to buy batteries... but also it will run out of power without warning.

The mouse I use now was cheap... I don't remember the price, it wasn't $5, but it certainly wasn't $50.

This may be completely obvious, but use a mousepad and try to keep the pad and the mouse itself clean. I think this is what makes the most difference.

Oh, and you want a reasonable size for your hand. I've switched to too big and too small, both are annoying and difficult to get used to.

Batteries jiggling or running down are a serious issue. You definitely want a cord.

Ok.... maybe I'm just not getting my point across.  I know that I want an optical mouse with a cord.  I am just wondering if anyone would recommend a Specific Model/company that they find to be of good quality and works well without lag and is accurate in blitz/bullet as I have heard some models tend to not work that well in blitz/bullet circumstances.   Any thoughts on this would help.

Thank you Gssleader..... for sticking to the question   I will look into it HP Wired USB mouses.

Any other thoughts anyone?

I want to know the mouse that Eric Hansen uses. He's ridiculously fast on lichess, and my mouse is next to useless. On chess.com it probably wouldn't hurt to have a good mouse either, although on this site you can premove more than one move at once, so it's a little different.

Dpnorman, don't say the L word you'll get in trouble!.....

I just don't see that it makes much difference. All mice I've had (that haven't been super cheap) have been accurate and worked well for blitz.

If you're a professional gamer with super high mouse sensitivity that tries to be accurate to the pixel then a high end mouse is important, sure. But in chess the squares are a decent size. Aiming for the center of the square and being off a centimeter or two makes no difference.

Casual mention of competitors is fine: it's when people try to start discussions about who or what is better or how they compare that the moderators act.

Personally, I can't stand the cords: I find they just get in the way. Batteries shouldn't be that much of a problem if you keep some spare. I like the feel of the Logitech myself. I would think that having a good internet connection is more important than the sort of mouse you're using - this is from someone whose preference is bullet.

PS. Size of the board makes a difference to me - the default size I find slows me down too much for bullet, but I don't use the smallest board either, because I mistakes with which pieces or squares I'm moving things to / on. I think I use one of the next sizes up...

I will +1 the internet connection. I didn't think it made much of a difference until I had a bad one!

Did Naka say that was his mouse?

dpnorman

I deleted it myself, because I posted it split seconds after you posted that link to the Naka mouse, which made my post pointless

I use a trackpad and it works fine for me.
