A Lesson Learned the Hard Way

I hope none of you have to go through this. I'm playing a game, we're in the end game and he makes a blunder and at this point he probably won't win. I have a bunch of stuff in my life right now which is probably stressing me out more than I know and I was very mad, at other things, and I sent him this horrible message of how he should resign and there was no way to win this game. Why don't you just give me my points and let's get on with it. He wrote back that just for that remark I'm going to take the whole two days to make every move. It might have taken another couple weeks at that rate. ****************************************** Once I cooled down I realized what an idiot I had been and I apologized. I don't think he read the message for a few days, but he finally resigned, and then he challenged me to another game. I don't like rematches, I want to play all the different players on here, but he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. ***************************************** Don't wear your emotions on your sleeve. This is one more life principle, seemingly unrelated to Chess, which you can apply to many different areas in life, including Chess. Keep your cool, keep your poker face. Poker players are probably the best example of how to keep your cool and not give away signals through body language. You have to apply this principle extensively in the business world. It's the same way in the Chess world. Always be polite, no matter how mad you are. That is diplomacy. Do not send insulting or sarcastic messages. Do not send messages when you are mad. I am totally chagrinned, mortified and ashamed of sending that message. It's about the stupidest thing I've ever done here. Good luck to all of you in your Chess career.

I'm a crusty old cob and can get mad because at this point in my life it doesn't matter. This sort of thing doesn't affect me as much as it might some young person who hasn't learned this lesson and might blunder at a time when it costs them money. So let's hope someone reads it. We need to put together the Mom rules for Chess. Sit up straight and put your feet on the floor. Be polite. Don't spit on your opponent. 😁

You are obviously not familiar with Phil Hellmuth happy.png

Gosh, what an awful life twist.

pcwildman

😁 I don't follow poker, but I'll have to look up Hellmuth.

OK. He is a wild man. When I start playing tournaments I was thinking, just a few days ago, of dressing up as something, I don't know what. I was thinking Casper of scare bare cg. I think Phil is now one of my new heroes.

Hit the wrong button. I was thinking the Kasparov scare bear costume.

Maybe just get a cut out face of him glaring.
