A method to motivate kids to 2000 rating

Sort:

If the chessmen are made of candy and the kids can eat them if they capture them.  If the winner gets to eat all the remaining.  The both players are allowed to split the chessboard (which is really a giant cookie/cookies) if and only if the game is fought to the very end.

We'll have 2000 USCF rated kids in no time; but the dental bill will be really high.

Is it worth it?

Each won game is worth 20 minutes of device time (tablet, smart phone, etc).

That'd do it wink.png

It is not worth the dental bill.

I motivated my 11 year old self to 600 By looking up to people. Have them meet champions, and theyh'l be inspired.

If you win a chess game you get two bucks.

Naa, that's easy.

Just don't feed them anything else. Only chess boards made of cookies and pieces made of candy. Then they wont get fat, because you'll be feeding them so little.

It's insulting because you know it would work or for a different reason?

we don't all crave candy, at nationals, everyone (at a high board at least) was dead serious..

Maybe they were so serious because they knew mommy and daddy prepared a special prize for winning...

Whaat really! Look I'm young and wize but a serious chess prodigy and just 11 years old but just  the tip for all these parents is to do it like this: introduce your son/daughter to the sport and then if he/she once sees it he'll wonder "oh hey whats this about" and get interested. I am now one of the best in my region for my age and I was in to this bizar but wonderful game.

mgx9600

"young and wize", there you go.

Ok, I get it.  Some kids don't like candy.  So for those kids, the chessmen can be made of carved carrots and other carvable anti-candies.  The chessboard will be made out of flat bread.

Soon -- we well have USCF 2000 kids everywhere and out of those will come USCF 5000, just boost the amount of reward.

As I am a kid I think getting money every time you win is motivating

mgx9600

Money... hmmm, not a bad idea.  Each win you make some money, each loss you give up some money.

As a kid, I find the beauty of chess motivating. I love playing for fun, don't care about winning (unless I am in a tournament), and play to improve.

Ah, now here we have an honorable player!

I'm a kid and I just play for the fun of chess. And if there is a cash prize it is just a bonus happy.png

where there's a carrot, there has to be a stick as well.  like if someone doesn't win their games, ...
