A minute ago I was playing a game, and I was making a trade for two minor pieces. My computer mouse slipped while I was capturing the knight, so, not only did my opponent get to keep his knight and be a minor piece up, he also was able to get the knight to safety and capture my rook. I ended up losing the game with that.

This isn't the first time that this has happened. I can't keep getting my rating docked because my mouse slipped.

Has this ever happened to you? Do you have any tips?

Better mouse mat?

Nerd-Man

yeah, I thought of that. But I have a good mousepad and a crappy mouse.

Nerd-Man

I guess this is the disadvantage and risk you take when playing chess online.

I play on mobile so I've lost 2 games in a row to a "mouse slip" or finger slip in this case on multiple occasions. Just be more careful, I'm not because I don't care that much if I lose a couple rating points for no reason. Theres nothing more to it

a new mouse costs $8.99 at K mart

I play on my mobile I haven't touched a mouse since 2008.

yup. back in the day when I played on FICS in a league called 45/45. I had not one, but a half dozen mouse slips during a league game. Moves such as Bf8-b4check became Be7. Finally I left a piece hanging (or rather, the mouse left the piece hanging) when the retreat move was obvious. After winning, my opponent said he found my "hypermodern" strategy difficult to understand.

Yikes!

It doesn't help that my internet isn't the best, so alot of times it will glitch up and lose me games. I've recently changed it in the settings to "click squares to move" which has helped a little bit.

I don't play much speed chess, but have experienced my fair share of mouse slips in puzzle rush where the highest priority is speed.

The exact reason that I always play "survival" in puzzle rush.

It happened again! Another rook lost! another game derailed! I need some tips before my rating plummets!

well, sometimes if the people u are playing are nice enough, you can tell them u slipped and they might give you an advantage... but other than that i dunno

Get a better mouse then

llamalord279

also, maybe try to pay a lot of attention to where your mouse is going, and play slower games so that you can be careful. One more thing: I recommend that you click the squares to move the pieces rather than dragging them.

I generally agree, sometimes i want to move my queen, but then I accidentally stop my mouse directly in the rook line and get my queen captured, and checkmated

A mouse costs less than a case of beer. Just go buy one.

You might even try cleaning the one you have. Or stop using a semi-reflective mouse pad.

That is what I've done, but it is not helping much. It is very annoying!
