Abandoned games!

It really irks me when an opponent abandons a game.  Not because of an internet connection gone bad, but when their position becomes untenable or obviously lost!  Rather than resign with some dignity they will hit the "x" rather than admit defeat.  Very unsportsmanlike.  To me it shows disrespect to the game of chess itself.

When someone leaves a game out of pride or ego, that is their own inner suffering playing out.

Site is full of people who abandon games or spite time out with no intention to move. It happens, but just have to accept the Elo they failed to defend.

Can’t tell if I’m being a bit hard headed to keep blocking people who abandon games when they could easily have opted out in another fashion.

It’s just a board game…..relax…
And you’re not doing yourself any favors thinking there’s a respectable gentleman game thing atmosphere here…they ban cheaters on ridiculous level daily.
But at the same time…it’s just a board game. I’d understand completely if you had money on the game and your opponent vanished without paying…id get that but like seriously..

Just imagine a grown a** man getting butt hurt because the kid he was playing didn’t resign in a respectful whatever manner he was expecting…get a grip.

It's disappointing when this happens, but you still get the win. Just put an alarm clock on your desktop and go make a coffee, come back in a couple of minutes to see that they have moved or not. No sweat.

What irks me is if you have a long time control game and wish to think about a critical move for over 50% of your time, it can treat you like you abandoned the game and forfeited that game. Remove that feature please, this is chess not skittles! So some kid abandons a game once in a while, you will still live with the free rating points!

Chess.com should also remove the abort game feature. Why do we have that? Emergencies happen and you lose a chess game, so what? Once you agree to start a chess game, it should be. Having this silly abort safety measure only encourages impulsive behaviour.
