aborting games

Why do players abort games? I find that quite a few players of 200 points better than me would rather abort the game than play against me.I play chess for the fun of the game and will play any one who is paired against me by the computer.

Surely the lesser players of the game are entitled to a lesson from far superior players.I do not mind losing and quite often review where I have gone wrong.I do not mind losing to lower rated players. At the end of the day we are all chess players whatever status we have acheived. Some people(myself included) learn more from losing a game to a higher rated player than by trying to learn tactics from any chess site

So come on you highly rated players give your minnions a chance of beating you. Or are you just afraid of making that one mistake that ultimately costs you the game

Totally agree Sir.

I like playing higher rated opponents, to learn from them. More often than not, I will get my a$$ kicked, but so what? I prefer to learn from those better than me.

I agree, this happens frequently also to me when higher ranking players abort games!! I just played a game with villa4ever and could not capitalize on an advantage I had because of his obvious better chess skills, but I learned something..

phat7

yup, agreed completely

we're here to learn chess and have fun right?

Well put OP. I don't run into it a lot myself, but it's silly nonetheless.

I find most of the aborts are when I am white.  Its like 90% so it is I am sure people basically quitting if they don't get to play white..  I have also found several players take about 1 1/2 minutes before making the first move or then aborting, maybe they are looking at past games and if they see you respond well to their chosen opening they punk out..?

Hadn't thought of that last part before... makes sense!
