abuse of vacation time-its out of control

I understand the purpose of vacation time and when used fairly it is a good thing-----but it is abuse sometimes and should be controlled. I understand people have vacations and real live issues come up. I have one guy  who has been on vacation for 2 months lets get real. I have another guy  brain crasher who really abuses the system We are playing where you have 3 days to do a move. I am winning so what does he do -runs the cloc to 2 hours  and t hen goes on vacation for 8 days. he returns does a move-lets it go to  two hours left and repeats everything or goes on vacation for a longer time-it  could be 2 moves in 28 days. The only reason he wins is the people get bored with the game or lose focus.  I do not feel anybody is entitled to 3 months vacation time on here- major league wrong. This is not the first time this has happened-its rare but should not be allowed to happen in the first place-unsportsmanship

I dont get this constant complaining about vacation abuse.  Its posted CONSTANTLY.  YOU have a choice:

1. Report the abuse, instead of posting about it.  Which does NOTHING.

2. Let your opponenet use up all of there vacation.

3. You obviously logged in, so how much of your time is wasted by someone being on vacation?

He wants attention that's why he created this thread.

Funny, I never have that problem in live chess...

I think the vast majority of those of us who have suffered through vacation abuse are not simply complaining, we're asking chess.com to change the rules.

If you enter a tournament, you shouldn't be able to take 3 months of vacation.  The time you can take for any one game must be limited.  How long that is, or if you can use more than set of vacation days per game should be studied and some reasonable solution implemented.

If I play a 3 day per move Daily game, that is what I’m prepared for. I want my opponent to make a move within his three days also. I don’t need him to abuse his vacation so that I “can think about my next move” MAMA (make a move already)

There are "No Vacation" tournaments.

The abuse of complaining about abuse is even more out of control.

Also!  I think we have lost site of the very definition of the word "abuse"

First world problems...

We live in a complain/whine culture today.

Very true...unfortunately.

It's really getting out of hand. The press and the people have nothing better to do than dissecting every single tweet a celebrity, politician etc. makes.

It's pathetic. In the old days, people only complained when there was something worth complaining about. People fought for freedom of speech, against corruption etc. Nowadays people fight against words in the english vocabulary.

It sickens me that there are people out there who are getting paid for that.

We were discussing this earlier this week.  Imaging what the modern online chess player would do if all they had was Postal Chess like we used to do back in the day.  Where you actually had to put a USCF postal chess card in the mail and...wait.

Now you have people posting how there time is being "wasted" because someone takes there 3 days to make a move.  Or one of my favorites i saw here a couple weeks ago.  someone was complaining that they kept getting the warning message about aborting to much.  Why were they getting this message?  Because they were "forced" to wait 2-3 seconds before the opponent would move.

Pathetic. If you play slowly -> people complain

if you play fast -> people complain

Why do we have to apologize today for what we are, do and even think?

That's why I don't take anybody who complains about flagging, vacation abuse seriously. They never get serious replies from me in their threads because they complain about things that really don't matter.

Take online chess for what it is.

Ya, it’s a first world problem because that’s where I live. BTW, nobody here is complaining about people “moving slow” we’re complaining about people who agree to a Daily game and then DON’T MOVE until they automatically go on “vacation mode” AND DOING IT CONSTANTLY!! I’m guessing most of the people here who are defending the practice are the worst offenders. MAMA (make a move already)

I just resign if a player is doing the vacation mode method. Get on to someone who wants to play.

HorribleTomato

Leave the koalas out of this, you sicko!

Corbellino

I cannot stand this. Someone goes on "vacation" I offer a draw or resign, aint nobody got time for that. I'm here to play chess.

You can do two things to prevent turds from pissing you off with Vacation time.

1. Play only people you have played before.

2. Only join "No Vacation" tournaments.

LouStule
Unfortunately, this site has yet to offer NO VACATION Daily matches. I wish they would. I have no idea why it isn’t done yet.
PawnDillinger

So what if someone is on vacation. Play someone else or play Live Chess.
