accepting draw when the opponent is down on time...

Hi guys, I have a question.

What should I do if I end up in a dead drawn position in a blitz/bullet game and my opponent has a few seconds before he loses (I'm up on time) and offers a draw?
Should I accept the draw or is it accepted to keep playing and win on time?

I mean, that's the whole idea on playing with rapid time contorls, right? What do you guys think?

Flag them. You're both playing with the same starting time, why not?

bolbil

I wouldn't accept a draw, it's the idea of a blitz/bullet game

Murgen

Decline the offer, your (hypothetical) opponent chose to play blitz/bullet.

The whole point is to win on time or by having your opponent making a time pressure induced blunder.

and if it's something more like 1 min vs 40 sec? should I keep playing then?

no

Blitz is more of a speed oriented game than one of skill. No one is thought of as bad at chess from losing a blitz game, as they are two different games.

it depends...for example in this kind of position I would accept a draw instead of playing a game of "who can move his king faster" especially when there are 10+ seconds on the clock and the time controls were 5/0+ ... or maybe I'm just too classyCool

I'd say in bullet you can do whatever you'd like to do as it has nothing to do with chess.

In blitz you have to decide what is more important to you, 8 more rating points or self-respect ...

In a DEAD drawn position I would play for the win if my opponent had only a few seconds. If they had, say 30 seconds or more I'd probably offer a draw.

As always, anyone playing without time increments knows what the deal is and they should manage time accordingly.
