I think it may depend on why it was closed. A self-closure might come back and continue their games. It may also be to limit problems from accidental or mistaken closures.
Account Closed????
@sunil : otello's account was closed for cheating
Oh ! Just curious-how did You get that info ? (no offense to You or him. He was nice to me. So I feel sorry for him. He is a FIDE rated player, if I remember correctly).
If you go to his page (click on his name in your game) you can see why his account was closed.

v3 might show a reason (in general, not this particular case as has been pointed out). Not all accounts have one.

Thank You. I could not see any reason and that is why I troubled You. By the way (BTW) what is meant by v3 ? (I am a Doc and cannot get past v3 = mandibular nerve !! could not think anything else; this comment may be lol / rofl for You).
v3 means version 3 of Chess.com site. :-)
He might not have cheated against you. You only need to cheat once to get banned but in reality it's hard to prove by one game as anyone can have a one-off near-perfect game, so I think it's usually based on a pattern, but it doesn't have to be every game.

So @Sunil-P-S, you cannot see this on Otello71s page? (BTW, not naming and shaming since chess.com clearly has this on the users page which is accessible by all.) And @Martin-Stahl - clearly this one is listed on the page.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. When I said "not in the particular case" I meant that to modify the my posting of "might" include a reason. I was aware this case did.
Also, try to keep the discussion away from cheating in general.
The site doesn't normally comment about account closure reasons, beyond the v2 icon and v3 descriptions. That member would need to talk to staff to find out what might have happened, by opening a ticket.
I looked at my game history and saw that someone had had their account closed and yet I had beaten them.
I ran through the game and it came back to me: I won on time in a totally lost position. Obviously my opponent was taking too long to feed his moves into his engine..
What's with the small type Sunil? Jesus, there's old people here ya know.
What???
You can ask but in general the site doesn't comment on closed accounts.
I have seen accounts get caught in the spam filters, especially active group admins, where their account got closed and later reopened. However, an account closed for fair play violations don't get reopened unless there really was a mistake.
In any case, if you have a game against an account that gets closed for any reason, you should play the move you would have played had the account remained open.
I'm sorry I just won't read that. If I have to strain my eyes it can't be that important no matter what he's saying.

I've been waiting for an opponent's next move so the game can continue. Then I find out his account was closed. If his account was closed, why does the clock continue to run giving me a victory on time rather than the game being ended? Shouldn't an account closed status count as a resignation? Inquiring minds and all that.
