Actual Computer Ratings?

Ever think that the computer ratings are much higher than their actual skill level? From taking on Computer Easy several times, I would say that its true rating falls within 850 - 950.

I'm not sure where to place Hard and I never really take on Medium. What are your opinions? Do their ratings match their skill level or do they appear to be artificially inflated?

Maybe but I'd like to hear opinions on where people think the computer ratings would be compared to players.

I think this is because of the variability of the computer's play.  The easy computer (and the medium) will make ridiculous moves that no sane person would make, but then they can suddenly play several good moves in a row that low level human players probably wouldn't find, hence sometimes they seem to play below and sometimes above their rating.  The hard computer seems to be rated a little above its strength but probably for similar reasons.

I play 10/10 games against Comp-Medium and Comp-Hard. Compared to my rating (~1450) I think Comp-Med(~1350) is overrated and Comp-Hard(~1600) does have the correct rating.

I also play against Lucas Chess computers. Lucas Chess Comp-users around 1400-1450 are stronger than Chess.com compu's at 1400-1450

I agree.

I've been pondering this myself lately.  I recently began playing out several tactical trainer scenarios against the computer.  I'm rated 1100 and play the computer at the 1200 setting.  When I play games against real people rated 1200, I usually loose but can at least give them a game. When I play these tactical trainer sessions out - sessions where I follow the recommended moves from the tactical trainer to establish an advantage - even with the established advantage, I just get DESTROYED by the computer.  Playing the computer at the 1200 rating makes me feel like an inexperienced child playing a trained adult.  No matter what I do, the computer finds a way to pin me, skewer me, check me, etc....even with take-backs and trying alternate scenarios, it seems no matter what sequence I try, the computer exploits some weakness.  With one scenario, I tried three different ratings:  1200, 1600, and 2000 and experienced basically the same result against all three settings. So, I am of the opinion the computer plays at a much higher rating than a human being at that same rating.
