2.french tarrasch with white... (ruy lopez was also with white) 3.panov botvinnik attack 4.closed sicilian grand prix 5.Najdorf as black 6.modern Benoni as black

ive been playing the modern benoni a long time and it gives me the best results against d4...if black can get the queenside pawns going the support of the g7 bishop is extremely good...Tal also played the benoni but i cant see studying Tal helpful lol very confusing☺

I believe you should actually do the opposite: find a master whose playing style you like / want to emulate and then copy that master's openings.

i thought about that too...but i am quite fond of the resulting positions in these openings...I love Tal but he was insane haha i also feel that looking at various masters might just help me broaden my playstyle just a bit☺

Bill Wall has a book 500 Ruy Lopez Miniatures (no annotations) that are worth studying.  On his website:

http://billwall.phpwebhosting.com/

he has an extensive list of pgns, but the one for the 500 Ruy Lopez Miniatures is actually a text file of the book itself.  If you want to go to the trouble of converting the game players, etc. heading to pgn header format, the games are already in pgn (abbreviated algebraic) and the possible variants seem to be in the proper () form.

thanks very much Mickin☺ Im new to the ruy lopez and have already seen there are some things to watch out for which i learned the hard way but overall i actually like the opening so far☺

1. Ruy Lopez... Kasparov and Anand

2. French Tarrasch... Michael Adams

3. Sicilian Grand Frix... Nigel Short

4. Najdorf as black... Veselin Topalov and Kasparov

I dont know the expert GMs to the other openings.

thanks bong711...seems Tal is my only choice at the modern benoni...he popularised it i think...i know at GM level its busted or so ive heard but im so far away from that level and where im from average tournament players dont know it that well which was the main reason i chose it 13 years ago☺

You have to have a feeling when you play an opening,a feeling of motivation, success and a feeling that you are doing something right, and from their you keep on practicing in-till you become a master at it.

Your selected openings are fine but they all have massive theory.

There are shortcuts to openings such as using the same pawn structure in different openings, cutting down on your opponent's options, and playing both sides of an opening.

Anand is a master of sicillian!

Mikhail Tal preffered Caro Kann!

ive seen this in pawn structure chess by soltis...from what i understand he talks about general pawn structures☺ i used to play the dragon but it gets a bit too wild for black...the usual Be3 and f3 worries me as it requires very precise play even at lower level☺ so najorf i understand to be a bit less wild but not boring ☺
