Aggresive or Deffensive?

When I first started playing, I tried the aggressive style in the beginning.  I'm not very good, and all that did was get my pieces taken.  I've started being more defensive in the beginning and worrying about the checkmate a little later.  I've won a little less than half the games I've played that way, but that's an improvement!

Positional is probably the better word than defensive, because I always want to have the initiative when I can, as should everyone. But in contrast an attacking player is willing to give more up for the initiative.

Actually, speaking for everone else, it depends on the circumstance you're in. Sometimes you're forced to go, or you'll be lose material or get slightly cramped. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I can't see anything wrong with what I said.

P.S. By the way, I prefer to be forced to be defensive.

Chosing an opening that gives you positions that you like vs. Stye (moves that are commital to a positions justifications, with perfect reason). Simular but not the same.

I realize this is hard for some players to come to terms with.

(I will not comment further for the argument will not end and no descision will be reached)

No decision will be reached because everyone will agree you're wrong and you won't accept it.

Give 2 players the same position 8 moves deep in the Dragon. One might want to go for the typical h4-g4 kingside attacking scheme, one might want to go for the more positional Nd5 type theme.

The fact remains, whether you agree with it or not, that give 2 players the same position, and they'll have different ideas of how they'd like to proceed.

This is it! Eureeka! Finally someone has said something sensible!
