Agressive chess VS. Positional chess

If you want us to advice about your mindset during a game, then the answer is very simple:

whatever works for you.

Because other than that, the vast majority of players do not have a style, and things like "tactical"or "positional"do not have any standalone value.

Though I am not quite in your class,I have watched quite a few games of the better players.

My favorite(by far, because he is such a nice fellow and truly wants to help those beneath his ability)...

is John Bartholomew!  His style is Positional! He's done pretty well with it.

Good luck-

I think it really depends. For Blitz an aggressive style is most rewarding but for Daily & Classical controls you are better off with positional play. I use lots of gambits in Blitz but when I play with my mom at home I try to play solid af because she is a WGM and kicks my butt if I am not perfect hehe.

Everybody figures out their style after playing for a while tho. I like faster stuff better so I enjoy being aggressive more.

For pawntsunami :

I see....well....that game was played really late, I actually remember it, I was half asleep (I have this issue of not letting go on losses...bad habit..)...so..well....this match wasn't my best play...at all really...

Well...actually...you convinced me when you said "autopilot"....but then....the london system is a system for a reason....in all the YouTube videos I watched about the London, it was always said that it's played by an accurate move order.....and plans already are known (like trading queen's knight to control the centre with your own king's knight....allowing bishop capture on g3 to open the h file....it's all memorized...and there is no more unless the opponent blunders!)

Eh....alright....my question will always be translated into a typical "which opening?" Question...okay.....I will find the one I like....okay....thanks...

I apologise for my misunderstanding about you and rapid gaming.....my apologies....

For keto : you can't be possibly serious...thank you but I know that a position dictates the way to play...i know about all that....thank you...but I am not really mentally disabled to not to understand anything you said....I assure you that I do....

As for everyone (else) who was nice enough to explain where I am wrong : thank you....especially pawntsunami and IM pfren......

As for keto : I don't care about your life problems, but treat strangers with some respect....would you ? Get some politeness from the nearest store...there is no need to be Agressive in talking as in chess....

PawnTsunami made some good points in post #12.

Initiative and Advantage are two completely different things. It is possible for your opponent to hold an enduring initiative, forcing you onto the defensive for 15 to 20 moves, and for his game to be objectively lost all that time.

This is one reason that a thorough knowledge of Tactics is so important... accurate defense is far more difficult (and perhaps more rewarding) than attack, and defending accurately requires that you anticipate and correctly analyze all of the tactical threats before they actually appear on the board.

Forget chess.  Comprehension is what you should be working on.

I am really laughing right now 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 seriously!!

Avatar of FGMkyrollous

Thank you princess_san....you are actually when of the few who actually got my point...

Avatar of Princess_San

How long have you been playing chess? I am sure you already figured out that you like some time controls and openings better, no?

Avatar of FGMkyrollous

We can fight later keto....although I haven't laughed like that in days...I should sleep now......

Oh right...now I get why you are so angry! You are a professional chess player who is now probably infamous and broke....sorry for that.....I am probably right?  I would never mock anyone by his finance issues....but that tells me I should execuse your anger.....

Avatar of FGMkyrollous

Oh yes...princess_san...I have playing seriously for a year now...I like the London as white...and I like the french and QGD as black (respectively against er and d4 from white...)

Avatar of Princess_San

Nice then Id say you are more a solid positional player. The London is very solid so if you like that then you won't love crazy gambits and sac lines.

Why are you laughing at KetoOn? She gave some good advice too! I think she means tactics by that.

Avatar of FGMkyrollous

Eh...I would honour advicers only when they are polite....keto isn't...,

And...pawntsunami....I am actually starting to get you after reading your advices again and again....then as you say I will forget about all this style thing....play the opening I like...work on tactics....play actively.......I thank you deeply (yes, I mean it...I am not sarcastic...)

Avatar of FGMkyrollous

On second thoughts....I am starting to understand you all now (except keto)....I see....then I will do as you say...thank you all!
