The long games with friends are always much better after a few drinks, adds intensity but my blitz rating always drops about 150 when i decide chess.com is where i need to focus my powers of the drunk.
An IM at my club, is a big believer in you need to be physically fit to play chess at a good level and that it has a direct correlation with things like your mental stamina and fatigue fighting levels.

A true gentleman never plays under the shameful influence of sobriety.
I concur with that at a certain level of chess. In a Division 6 match of the local town league, it may be okay though.
Good Lord!
Don't any of you play Chess simply for the enjoyment of the game...or, is it a way to measure up your manhood to another?
Hello all.
I am just wondering how chess and alcohol affect your play? For me it destroys it. After few few drink I stay well away from the embarrassment.
I have heard from different people that drink sometimes helps peoples' chess performance. But I guess it must effect people in different ways. What have you observed or noticed?
Comments/advise appreciated :)
Some friends and I arrange drunk chess nights every once in awhile. I play remarkably worse. I know there are some people who think better while inebriated. But alcohol makes my mind cloudy and too relaxed to care what's going on OTB.
@ trysts. No.
its truthfully quite a problem. sometimes if your watching- you'll see a mod post. thats when you pm them.
but a ticket is a 2+ day wait. and it isn't less than that no matter what it is.
obnoxious and unacceptable posts are dealt with, and I'd remind the new troll, that a person can be muted or banned for violating TOS.

I was just joking but if you wanna be a little nerd about it and run and tell mommy, i'll be forced to crush you.
Personally, I almost always drink a bottle or two of strong red wine during my matches.
I'm sure it has led to many mistakes, but it makes the game much more enjoyable for me, which after all, is the point of all games...unless, one is after points, no matter what.
