Sure, but I'm just saying Tal's had a few things named for him too, despite not really being known for his openings.

Oh, and of course,;

There were/are about thirty players who either were world champs or were of WCC caliber, which means that there are/will be (30!=) 2.6525286 × 10^32 threads on chess.com like this, plus repeats, which would cost an estimated minimum of $______. Because the exact same things get constantly repeated in these threads, it is suggested that to conserve memory/bandwidth, etc. chess.com create codes for stuff people inevitably bring up. For example, 1=first player better, 2=second player better, 3=knowledge availability, 4=talent, 5=waffle pics, etc. In the long run, it would be much more efficient to create an algorithm to simplify these posts than to store this much raw info. However, no information would be lost, because any post with anything original or well-thought-out would remain as is. This post could be coded as 0.

Simply code this stuff as facepalm

If you mean who would win a match between them I'd pick a healthy Tal from 1960over a boozing Alekhine from 1935; althoughI think a fully prepared and sober Alekhine in 1930 would be favored over Tal in 1960, but who knows?

As far as who is my favorite, I like 'em both too much to pick one over the other.

I'm not sure how much you know about ol' Ben, so I'll give you the broad, condensed version.  He was gifted; a brilliant writer, a world famous scientist, a distinguished diplomat, inventor, musician, philosopher, chess player who knew the value of wine, women, and song.  He is the only member of the Continental Congress who could compete with Jefferson intellectually and Washington sexually, and he had a  sharper wit than all of them.  Out of all the historical figures I'm aware of, he is the one I'd most like to sit down with to a couple of pints and shoot the bull.

Well, Mir Sultan Khan pretty much did just that--become a world-class player without having read a book, because he couldn't read.  What he learned about chess came from playing and personal study.  Why is so hard for some people to accept that there are natural talents at this game?  And Capablanca, Kasparov, and all the rest are complete liars, and Fischer is--what--some shining beacon of truth?  Are you kidding me?  Send me some of what you're smoking, 'cause we don't have anything that strong around here.

WELL ITS EASY TO HAVE A VALID POINT, IF YOU PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH I NEVER SAID, YOU ARE JUST LIKE MY BROHTER. I SAID CAPABLANCA LIED WHEN HE SAID HE NEVER STUDIED (thats different from saying read a book). Well now lets talk about that kahn guy, i dont know so much about him, but  first we dont know so much about the facts, its way back, wether he could read or right or really was so good. Secondly if i remember correctly, it was way back were player were a bit weaker than at times when capablanca lived. Also he has only beaten english players i guess. AND KASPAROV ALSO IS A LIAR, WHEN HE SAID HE REMEMBERS EVERY TEL NUMBER HE EVER DIALED AND THE MOVES OF EVERY GAME HE EVER PLAYED. THATS FAR BEYONG A NORMAL LIE; ITS REALLY INSULTING THE LISTENERS INTELLIGENCE IF HE THINKS we will believe him, also some mistake in his games clearly disprove his words. but you probably like liars a lot because, you just did the same when putting words in my mouth and delibertly misunderstood

I see you have serious emotional problems.  I really don't care what you believe to be the truth.  And you could at least use spell-check to come across as semi-coherent.

See ya.

Skwerly

Alekhine, hands down.

Heck yeah a friend of Benjamin Franklin is a friend of mine; As I write this I'm wearing a t-shirt with his portrait.

fabelhaft

Both. Two of my favourite players but if I had to pick one I'd choose Tal for being such a sympathetic person.

yeah resorting to pointing out my obvious deficits in english, instead of a serious reply really tells all. You are a liar anyway, talking to you is meaningless.

Alekhine.  Although I'm biased, I have looked over way more Alekhine games then Tal games.  Have you guys seen the video here on chess.com on Tal?  It's part of the Greatest Minds series by Roman Dzindzichashvili.  There is an unforgettable queen sacrifice he employs for the win.  Pretty epic.

Quoite from Capablanca on Alekhine (from a Dutch video): "20% of Dr. Alekhine's game is bluff."  So again it's a push, but I stick with Tal, if only because he was a much better person.

Ya' know, I do the same thing! In chess, there are many geniuses in it's history, so, I just finally base my opinion on whether, or not, I could tolerate a drink or two with them!

Tal? Definitely! Just because he seemed like a clever person. Alekhine? I really would like to know the true story of Alekhine, even if, in the end, it turns out to be disgusting and shameful.

Hey, we all know Dashkee---he never refused a free drink in his life!  But tryst, tell us which master you wouldnt drink with.

I love Tal's style and games, very very entertaining, but the precision of Alekhine is unmatched, so i go with Alekhine

I'll drink to that

And I pick Kasparov, who's better than both of them!
