I just love em Carlsen fanboys. So funny....!

Let's not go overboard. I don't hate him ? However, when you are supposed to be the best at something, that means people (at least some) will look upto you, to perhaps even try and act like him. Acting like a spoiled brat when you lose a game is not good, especially if you are supposedly the best at the game. Lose with the same dignity that you win with.

Thats at least my opinion anyway.

He was a teenager at the time. :D Acting like most teenagers do.

Perhaps he was looking up to a spoiled brat at the time...

Teenager Anand too?

Ugh. Couldn't watch more than one minute of that video. Couldn't cope with that much fairytale princess music, voice, and pink CGI.

A matter of taste I suppose. Some people can't stand Igor Smirnov or Roman Dzindzichashvili. I guess I've just learned I can't stand Alexandra Kosteniuk. Pity.

It's unprofessional and immature. There is no excuse for arrogance and a player at that level needs to act like he's been there before...
CrimsonKnight7

Well she wasn't the one acting like a spoiled brat, Magnus was.

Losing in Blitz against weaker players is always very frustrating.Be it Carlsen or be it someone else, doesn't matter.

HotBoxRes

In that game, Carlsen was the weaker player.

I'm far from a Carlsen fanboy (Anand fan here), but his haters are definitely worse than his fanboys. Magnus just made a mistake by moving the wrong rook, and was obviously frustrated. I don't see anything wrong with his behaviour. And afterwards his father apologized from her anyway.

But even if you want to be technically correct, if Carlsen wanted to be an "arrogant punk," he would've actually won the game. Going strictly by the rules, Carlsen didn't resign, and after he moved the wrong rook, Kosteniuk had only the right to re-start Carlsen's clock, and ask him to continue by playing rook on e3. Instead she stopped the clock, which means the game is over. If Carslen would have made a complaint he could have pointed out that he didn't resign, and Kosteniuk would've lost by forfeit. So long for being the arrogant punk.

I'm not trying to hate on Kosteniuk, but her arrogance is 10 times of that of Magnus. You may need to do your homework on that. You may want to do your homework on who backs it up better as well, since Carlsen won that tournament 3 points clear of 2nd place, while Kosteniuk finished the last.

Nevertheless gg by Alexandra!

I do not hate Magnus ? Why do people think by my pointing out someones bad behavior as hate ? Magnus lost the game, because she had a mating net on him, even if the move would have stood. Also it looked like the TD was right there. I don't know because I wasn't there were you ? So he could have complained all he wanted it was still a lost game for him. And again being great at chess does not justify acting like a 5 year old, perhaps to some it may, but it doesn't to me. That does not mean I hate him though.

Also if he were a man, he should be the one to apologize for that type of behavior, and not have his father do it for him. He acted that way when Chucky beat him also. I am not saying the game isn't frustrating, but at that level, you would think one could handle a loss better than the way he did. Perhaps that is something he should work on.

I did not observe any arrogance on Kosteniuks part in this video. Also there was no showing of "boobies". That last thing must only exist in the fantasy version of the video made by some males here.

It is obvious that Carlsen must have agreed to the video beforehand. Thus no stalking.

Carlsen behaviour leaves much to be desired, he was clearly trying to cheat and then just walked away. But that does not justify calling him an "arrogant punk" by the OP. I can understand that he must have felt very embarrassed.

Get on with it, people. World class players are not known for their modesty.

If someone labels Magnus as an arrogant punk, they deserve to be called haters. I can spot the difference between arrogance and frustration, and this game is an example of the latter. And what part of "She doesn't have the right to stop the clock" you don't understand? Read about Benko v  Keres, Curacao 1962 for a similar situation. The position was definitely lost after R3e2, but who knows whether Kosteniuk spotted the right tactical shot immediately. She stopped the clock, which is the wrong behaviour, AND against the rules, but no one is calling her out on that. Magnus likely wouldn't have continued anyway, but he might have shaked her hand in that case. And TD being there does not change a thing. I wasn't there, but I can assure you that TD was there during Polgar v Kasparov game as well. They didn't interrupt that game because guess what. . . Polgar didn't complain.

Ivanchuk is one of the players I like the most. But he is the one who kicks the trash cans, and refuses to take urine tests after the loses. Is he arrogant? If you've followed Chucky for just a bit, you'd know that it's stupid to even suggest so. He is just childish. And so was Carlsen's behavior in this game.

To sum it up, I do agree that Magnus could have acted better, however he did nothing that deserves an apology, or making a big deal out of. His father being kind by apologizing doesn't change that. And after Fischers, Kasparovs, and Korchnois of the world, someone is calling Magnus an arrogant punk. Give me a break.

Elubas

Well, I think it's only fair to judge Magnus over a larger span of videos than simply this one. Look at his interviews, what he says about other people, stuff like that -- him in this isolated moment of frustration, at a younger age -- it's not entirely clear how hostile he meant to be -- perhaps he was mostly just mad at himself. It didn't seem like he was surprised that he was "caught," so we don't know that if Kosteniuk didn't do anything, if Magnus would have just gave up and said something like "Oh who am I kidding, I hate this mistake but I have to live with it." It just seems like there is a lot to interpret -- he certainly doesn't make it obvious like people such as Korchnoi, who are very vocal about how they feel.

The fact that in general (at least as of late) he says nice things about other players, is willing to remark on his bad play when he loses, often looking at his chess flaws openly, makes me think this video is more of the exception rather than the norm. Doubtlessly he did not act appropriately; I just think this one particular instance isn't enough to make a definitive conclusion about his character.

Kosteniuk isn't just some GM. She won the WWCC, which not many women GMs can claim. She played a beautiful endgame against Judit Polgar in a blitz game that's also on YouTube

True, but if you disregard the fact that she is a woman, and compare her with other top chess players regardless of sex, she is just some GM.
