Am I a bad chess player, or am I just a patzer.

I recently played a game that was completely winning on 10|0 time control. I, instead of taking many opportunities blundered OVER and OVER. I wasn't even tired or anything like that, and I seem to be getting worse at chess. I probably need to slow down, or something, but I feel like even if I do I will still miss everything. I used to be over 1250 rating points, but I keep going down, and when I do go up I just fail again. Do you have any advice? I don't know what to do.

This was the game, and there are plenty more just like it.

JackRoach

bruh, I am not anxious and I respect chess deeply. Just because you are bad at something doesn't mean that you are disrespecting it.

JackRoach

Hmmm... well the only thing you are helping is this forum by adding comments

besides that you aren't doing anything good.

Well I'm above 1000 so this doesn't seem like beginner, and the only thing I am showcasing is how bad I am at chess. I am not a perfectionist and I will never be a grandmaster. I don't want to win ugly, I'm trying to prevent myself from losing ugly.

Oh my good god Urked. Why be so nasty? Does that make you sleep better? Make you happier? Feel superior? Get over yourself.

Also, your games belong in Showcase or Beginners and not here in General .

Bruh, just cause I lose games doesn't make me a perfectionist. Your logic is way below me.

Jack just ignore the guy ! .......he’s just a patter !

Yeah seriously Crow, dude you're clearly a VERY good player, the OP, like most of the rest of us is just trying to vent some frustration. It has nothing to do with "RESPECT for the game" or any of that nonsense. If he didn't like the game, he'd stop playing. I have the same problem he does. I understand some openings, I play ok with bots or with friends, but the second I get into a rapid game, I start making blunder after blunder. It's super frustrating to feel like you're getting nowhere.

Yeah, I know. I'm good at ignoring but arguing is my strong suit. I'm a future debate master against patzers grin.png

These forums need a dose of honesty.

I have 100 times the honesty than you do.

There is no such thing as a bad chess player. You probably crush people who play chess casually.

I think one thing you can do to improve your play is before you make a move, do one last "tactics check" to make sure your move doesnt hang a piece or miss a fork or something. This can't really be done in blitz chess, so do this in 15|10.

JackRoach

Much more honesty than Urked will ever have. Anyway this problem is pretty recent for me, I don't know why. Maybe I'm just in a slump. I'm definitely not depressed or anything Urked thinks I am.

You're not depressed, you're just in a "tilt." you've lost a lot of games in a row, which makes your confidence in yourself really low, causing you to play worse and descend deeper into tilt. I suggest you take a day off or two from chess and when you come back, act like this is your normal rating and try not to care about ratings. Your stronger chess should soon boost your rating back up where it needs to be happy.png

Don’t be fooled by UrkedCrow’s states, they have no relevance to his playing strength
