Nigel is one of the top English players with experience in beating some of the top masters of the last 5 decades. His tactical ability comes through strongly on this DVD. After all, you don't get to the top without strength in all areas of the game, but particularly in tactics. Nigel covers key areas including Attacking the King, Tactical Awareness, Dynamic Defence, Unexpected Moves and Imbalances. Going through a lot of his games, mostly wins but some losses, he analyses the tactical situations and gives you an insight into his thinking, not only when tactics were immediately available, but how to manoeuvre the position so that a tactic would become possible. This has really helped me to become aware of the possibility of a tactic or combination a few moves before it is possible but then play to make it come about. One comment though on the presentation. If I am going to spend 15hrs studying a video course, it needs to be kept interesting and moving along at a pace. Nigel has a very low-key style of delivery which can border on slow, and I would suggest moving it up a gear, but this is only a minor bug-bear to an otherwise great course.
