An unpleasant comment!

IP address blocking, if they did it, doesn't even do anything. IP addresses change all the time.

Cherub_Enjel

As an analogy, you don't let a 2-year-old go outside on the streets alone, and when he gets hurt/kidnapped etc., blame the world for it, instead of the "victim", which is the baby/mother.

People shouldn't be such babies online, especially with all the massive blocking options offered by chess.com.

You're 78 years old and you're surprised by this behavior on an internet site?? Where have you been living for 78 years? Yes, there are rude, boorish people in the world.

Honestly, this is just not a reality, but if everyone just followed rules, no one would have to be subjected to bullies and other jerks.

You've never exchanged recipes during a blitz game innerspace???surprise.png   Where have YOU been living for the past 78 yrs?

@innerspace50 & Cherub_Enjel:

Okay, got it about IP's, similar further measures taken will minimise the crap.

If someone sends me a message during a game, I'll look at it and respond if necessary, if nasty then block & report.

I haven't had an unkind word said (yet).

wilytwister

Whatever that player had said was not nice.  I have once dealt with a player who was a jerk during one of Chess.com matches.  I did not like that much.  You deserved better than getting a rude comment.

Brendan_UK

@innerspace50, sorry I wasn't ignoring you, I had to go.

If someone sends me a message during a game, I'll read it & respond if necessary, except for bullet & blitz <5, blitz 5 to 10 good move etc.

Blitz >10 to15 all sorts, chatting to a guy who goes to the same chess club as my Swiss grandfather did, and we gave all of his 7 min blitz champion medals back to the club when he died. (my grandad that is, not the guy).

Rapid & correspondence Day(s)/move= chat & mentoring.

I'm 63 and have been playing internet chess for about 10 years on a variety of sites....your skin gets thicker the longer you play on the net....I just laugh at people like that now....chess.com is the best I've found....imagine all the jerks you see in the general population given an opportunity to be anonymous and they react even worse than if face to face....if you do want to block anybody just hover over their name, look at the symbols at the bottom and hit the one that looks like a minus sign (second to last) and you do have to have any more contact with them.

universityofpawns

By the way innerspace....a master told me that another master at an OTB tourny took a clock and threw it against the wall shattering it one time when he timed out...you are kind of tame by comparison, and brave...we all have wanted to knock our pieces off, but have inhibitions...which is another way of saying not having enough guts or caring about what others might think...

If being told you suck is the worst thing that has ever happened to you in 78 years,  you have lead a,sheltered life. Do you quit every time someone is rude or makes a comment that offends your delicate sensibilities?

I'm 66 and have never had anyone I played chess, baseball, basketball, football, volleyball, etc. with tell me I suck unless I really played poorly - until the most recent generation.  For someone who has been away from chess for a couple decades the rude behavior on the Internet is highly objectionable. This is not how society used to function. You have people here who moan about name calling then their next post if filled with d-bag, fish, etc.  It's a sad fact of life that the character of people goes so downhill when they can play the coward and hide behind the Internet.

DrSpudnik

People are pretty universally terrible. Try not to let them ruin your frame of mind.

Coxswain109
There are some younger people who havent learned proper chess etiquette as well as plain old common decency. Block them they don't have the right to ruin your day or not provide you with the respect due their elders. This is the new generation coming up now, arrogant, entitled and snobbish.

I was a bit surprised by ''kaynight'' and their comments, saying you should toughen up and not be effected by rude behaviour on chess.com by players.

I admitt it is a different world to 25 years ago and bad manners have not been spared, so if ''kaynight'' has a family member killed by a stranger in the street do I then say to ''kaynight'',get over it or just toughen up?

Firstly, how do you know they are American?

Secondly, why would it matter if they were American?

Thirdly, Just block the chat feature.

Lastly, you are old enough to deal with this without broadcasting publicly.

If he posted about it, it means he felt the need for it. You should refrain from such judgment. Stick to your 4 word comments, it suits you best.

Would it hurt your delicate sensibilities if I call you a douchebag? Because you clearly are.
