Anand-Carlsen (game 4)

A moral victory for Carlsen because he ends with more one Pawn then Anand.

What do you think?

Nope, Anand is quite clearly destroying Carlsen.  With all the hype of a Carlsen juggernaut it is obvious Anand is winning both on the board and psychologically.

You seem confused. For Anand to be winning on the board...he would have had to actually win, on the board.

I think it will be close... The draws show very equal play form both sides.

Actually at that last game they played. Carlsen had the upper hand and Anand barely made a draw so it's obvious that both players have had their chances. It will be fun to see how this world champion match will evolve but i'm rooting for Carlsen anyhow..

Hmmm a blunder occurs in game 5. The leader then easily draws the rest of the match and we have our world champion. Money Mouth

I believe that Carlsen is getting stronger game by game and he will win game 5

No anand was better until move 31...

garry casperove said he would like white up until that move...

My opinion is that the balance is slowly but surely tipping in Carlsen's favor.

In the first two games he was nervous, hence the short draws. However, in the 3rd game, even if he had some advantage, Anand preferred to avoid complications and went for a safe draw while now, in the 4th game, Anand barely escaped. Anand is a tough nut to crack, but Carlsen is gradually increasing the pressure (or rather, Anand's resilience is diminishing under constant pressure). If Carlsen is patient, he'll win.

IMO Carlsens overall strategy of trying to avoid opening theory isnt really working that great. What works in a tourney is one thing....what works in a match against a very experienced multi-time world champ is another.

In any case, all the hype about Carlsen blowing away Anand was just that...hype

i believe anand is controlling the initiative and will win one of the next few games

Nice Imagination

Tal quote "If you wait for your luck to turn up life becomes very boring" either Anand or Carlsen must risk all to win not only the match but acclaimation from us all in the first game Anand could have moved Rook to e8 threatening e7e5 to open the position instead he played safe and went knc4 which just led to a draw Carlsen too has had chances he hasnt taken although the quality of the chess is getting better i hope one of them seizes the moment

No, today is a rest day. Game 5 will start tomorrow.

The most interesting aspect of game 4 is that Carlsen had the same choice as had presented itself to Anand in each of the first three games  - a slight advtantage on the board and the choice between taking a safe draw and entering into complexities that potentially offered more.

In game one Anand repeated N moves rather than expore the ..b6 lines.

In game two he exchanged Qs rather than play the Qg4 lines.

In game three he didn't take the pawn when he could have.

Anand's strategy is clearly safety first. Try to catch Magnus out in opening prep, but don't do any risky pushing in the middlegame.

It's a very sound match strategy for him. Shorter games and more draws favour the older and lower rated player.

By contrast when Carlsen has a chance to grab a potentially poisoned pawn he does so willingly and gives us the best game of the match..

But Vishy is really up for this match and it's going to be very close...

I agree that Anand is up for the challenge.  Carlsen may be the highest-rated player ever, and he may end up being the first person to ever break 3000, but people seem to forget that Anand is 2700+ himself, meaning he's no pushover.  He's also had experience in this type of match, and on this stage, that Carlsen has never had.  A 100-point rating difference doesn't mean much at that level; it's the difference between 1350 and 1400 in mortal terms.

I have no particular rooting interests, but I'm starting to lead towards rooting for Anand, just because of the level of disrespect he is getting, even though he is the reigning champion, not Carlsen.

Have to respect Anand. I never doubt Magnus is far superior in his rating.. but as i expected, rating gap in match at this level isn't that important rather than preparation. I would say Anand and his team are far well prepared than Carlsen team for this WCC. Game 1, 2 and 3 showing Anand who is World champions since 2007, far experience in this type of event. Not only preparation important but his stamina for long games and adapt to such tense atmosphere, make Anand such a formidable opponent for Carlsen

There's no need to respond to disrespecting by disrespecting.  Actually ironic ...  as being nice to jerks is a compassionate quality that Anand himself espouses but his fans can't get inspired to follow.
