Anand Vs Carlsen anther draw ???
The problem is that both men refuse to go outside prepared lines. The result will be draw after draw unless they change that thought process.
It is about time that they started 'playing' chess. There is more to it than just memorizing lines. Both men are at the world championship. Who cares about the past, who cares about ratings, who cares about studying the opponent.
Just start playing chess. Wing it and see what happens.
Exactly! Just heard the Press Conference. I am keen about Games 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12. The Odd number games, is most likely to be boring. The reason why is because They need to save their energy for the next day/ game. But, on the even numbered, they will put a lot of effort into it, because the next day will be a rest day
Yeah, sure...just "Wing it and see what happens."
Riiiiiight.
That sentiment, in a nutshell, sums up the ridiculousness of fan complaints when top pros make short draws.
Carlsen winged it in the last game and that went horribly wrong. Anyway we will see Carlsen's temperature in game 3.
again I'll say this : Those who complain about the draws and say it boring obviously don't know anything about chess.
Yeah, sure...just "Wing it and see what happens."

The championship will be decided in tie break games. If you like that then good luck to you. Fischer was right when he said that modern chess is nothing but memorization. Wake me up when they start playing chess.

Anand and Carlsen want to WIN the match. If it means boring games, exciting games, or any other kinds of games, they will do what they feel needs to be done.
And so would you if you were in their shoes.
Fischer had some nerve complaining about modern preparation. This is a guy who studied chess 14 hours a day and was the best-prepared player of his time. If he had ChessBase, Houdini, and all the other tools available today, his games would be "boring" too. To believe otherwise is fooling yourself.

Hi, I just looked at your ratings. Not that mine are any good... But I don't think you are right person to tell others they don't know anything about chess... Just saying.
Having said that and completely acknoweledging that I most certainly have a lot to learn about chess, I hope the next match will have a winner. I don't care who, but I would love to see a game of chess. Not a game of a drawish opening. I can understand why they do this, but that doesn't mean I have to like it ;) (and I'm sure they don't give a rats-ass if I do or not like it :P )
They are on a mission to prove chess is a draw with best play. So, they play their best to draw all 12 games.
This is very different from Fischer - Spassky WC. They were there to prove chess was not a draw.
Anand and Carlsen just don't belong to WC. The format is definitely needs to be changed with 32 players and divided into 8 groups. Seeded players are 1-8. They have to make a draw just like in the World Cup Soccer.
Yes, I hope they do understand that if they continue this, it will have consequences for the sport. Let's not forget that someone bought the rights for the next decade to air it... He wants viewers. And probably a return of his investment.
Have to say though, I wasn't expecting it from Carlsen. But then again, I can understand it. Just not very interesting to watch like this.
In this format I see no reason for Anand to press. Carlsen is the only player that needs to win and now the ball is back in his court.
what is going on ?
where is the chess GM minds ?
the most boring chess championship in chess history .
It's early days yet, both are just getting a feel for each other now, things will start to open up as the match goes on
Ok, here's a simple rule change that will make the players more "adventurous".
What is the total prize fund? 1 million?
Then let's establish that the winner gets 500k and the loser 500k.
The incentive to win is the glory and "career progression", but maybe if there arent money at stake they would be able to relax and take some risks.
Maybe think: "will my games be remembered 20 years from now?" Or will they be just a stat in a database?
Well, the loser is going home with around a million now... the winner 300K more... It might be better to just give the loser nothing except flight +accomodation. Then they will have a really good reason to win, besided honor :P
I agree with TitanCG. Magnus has regained whatever edge he "lost" by drawing with White in G1 and has time to prepare a twist or two for G3. The longer the match goes evenly, the better the challenger's chances become, imo. Youth will prevail and Anand will slip up as he did against Gelfand. Let the draws pile up and with it, the pressure on the champ!

You seem to think that games like these are drawn because the players aren't interested in winning the match, and if Carlsen just wanted to win the match enough he would have refused the repetitions in the first games and instead gone for clearly inferior positions.
