andriod app update pushed out yesterday

Thanks for watching this thread it is an important one and I know you guys are doing your best.

I am running a Samsung Note 8.  The app was running just fine until your last push this morning or last night.

Now here are my issues which make the application now unusable for live play:

-----  I just completed a live play game 5 minute.  For me it was the first time I experienced this.  After I would make a move the screen would flash white, and then my move would be made again.  Of course wasting time, but that is not important I do not care about the win, just the app functioning as it should.  Also in this same game, I has 1 minute left versus my opponents 5 seconds... I was trying to promote a pawn to Queen on the H File.  The app would not do it, . .  I would push the pawn, select Queen, but the move would then not take place.  I tried everything possible to fix it, but with no sucess.

-----  Secondly, in regard to the chat meesages... is there a logic as to why the chat messages are showing up outside the game I am playing?  Just a question and not as important as the functionality of live play.

Exactly! - Love chess.com . . . and I like the new intentions with the new app and most of it is doing well . . . but I think portions of it were designed my Gomer. :) - - - I believe they will get there.  The Live Play right now for sure, even post the last push is a disaster.

Well, there's no bug on my side with the app. The only thing missing is the direct access to the mailbox so we can see whether new team matches are scheduled.

option to watch top game is cool. But it would be much better if we could see ratings and titles...

White screen flashing and last move repeat issue should dissapear in 3.0.169. Make sure you updated to that version.

Can you make a screenshot of chat issue?

alien_roger - - - Below you can see the screenshot.  This was just the example I could provide this morning.  That chat message is not from the current game I am playing... it just pops up to the right side... I have had many chat messages pop up there at one time from multiple games while I am making moves in a different game.  Maybe, it would be a help or ok if at the minimum there was the users name there who was sending the chat message.  There is nothing to identify where it came from.  Hope this helps.  Thanks.

alien_roger - - - as for the LIVE PLAY - - here is a screen shot to confirm what update I am running.  You are correct, the White flash and repeat move are gone... they are corrected... BUT . .  please check because I have the issue still remaining of pawn promotion to Queen or other piece. I am unable to promote pieces, the game just hangs... I can make other moves... just not pawn promotion.

Can you check it for 3.0.170?

I can't promote again. In other games I had this problem I had time to find other ways to win. My last game I did not have time for other moves.

I would like the new app better if there was a way to access the multiple groups I'm a member of (as well as the group I run!). Also I do not receive group notifications in my message inbox, only personal messages from other members.

Yeah if you're using the new app, learn to play! Only noobs need to promote pawns, I'm glad the new app has taken that rule out of the game... I never liked it anyway, sometimes the game is tuff enough , last thing I need when I'm running around on the back rank,trying to avoid mate, is that my opponent should suddenly get a new queen

Anyone know if the new app has fixed the en passant rule??

The good:

I like the way the game looks. I like that more of the sites features are accessible from the android app.

The bad:

Live games constantly hang. Be it on wifi or Network, at least once a game the board will freeze with my clock still counting down.  Sometimes this can be corrected by entering the chat menu and then backing out. 

There appear to be two states of the game occuring; one of the states being local and the other located on the server. It seems when a move is made on the user device it changes the game state and then pushes the update to the server. The server makes the same change and then pushes the update to the local version. This seems clunky. Why not have a modified web view of the board so that you are active on the server side. Or query the server on every click action of the screen. Pick piece ( click ) Query server. Move piece ( click ) query server. More packets are being sent but the data usage is minimal. 

I am not a fan of the full screen mode as I can't check my notification bar for Network strength, time, notifications etc.. Android Kit Kat offers a nice way in and out of this full state. Since you already have the "in" down I will include a code snippet at the bottom for the "out" state. 

The app does not handle interuptions well. Receiving a phone call will completely disconnect you from a live game with no hope of reconnecting, even if the call is ignored. The board is present and the clock is counting down but no inputs are accepted. Email and text messages will sometimes cause the same thing. 

I also do not like that the app launches into a live chess area even though that is what I use my phone for the most. I would prefer a splash screen with the different options to choose from like the previous version.

I do not like that the Live Chess persist after exiting the app. I know that it times out and closes but I believe the user should have action of the app state. A logout button would be nice. Better yet a back button handler would be preferred. 

I have been a paid member in the past but discontinued it when I was playing less. I would be willing to pay again just to have a usable version on my phone if that is what it takes. 

As mentioned previously here is a code snippet to handle the exit full view using two buttons to enter and exit.
