Anger When Losing???

Losing in chess makes me so mad to the point where I'm doing regretful things in the moment. I've broken a laptop from slamming it, cracked my phone screen from slamming it on the ground, broke a plate and a cup, punched a hole in my wall, punched a mirror and broke it, slammed my door and damaged it, etc. It just makes me so friggen angry!!! I curse out the players who beat me and I want to go to their house and kill them in the most painful way after a loss. I asked my friend for advice and he told me to just say good game instead of raging, so I've been doing it and surprisingly it has cooled me down some. But now I'm noticing most players don't say good game back and that has me going over the edge once again. The lack of sportsmanship along with the loss is starting to make my anger almost worse. Just slammed a pot of soup on the ground after blundering a game away because I was moving too fast and running out of time. My opponent didn't say good game back so I told him f*ck you. Now as I'm cleaning soup off the walls, I'm wondering if there's something I can do for my anger or if I should just quit chess. Because nothing else makes me this angry. I'm usually very calm and patient. Any advice???

Study now, play (rated games) later and never mind losing.

maybe just play a computer even not a real human that you want to kill

It's normal to get frustrated when you lose. That's what makes us human.

But discipline is important. You need to be able to control your behaviour even when you're angry, sad or frustrated. Take a deep breath whenever you feel strong negative emotions, stop and think before you act. It could save you from causing $1000 worth of damage again.

Great advice but the incongruity of the message with the name/image has got to be among the most inconsistent in all of internet posting history!

(The image is of a sinister mad clown and the name is "Deranged." I'm only writing this because of the chance that, at some point in the future, Deranged might have a name change and go by Happy Yoga Practitioner and the image to that of a bed of roses and people reading this in the future might think I'm nuts.)

In my state, there is something perfectly legal you can smoke that will make you feel better.

Losing and a feeling of defeat can be a very bitter pill to swallow.  We all love the feeling of winning and being at the top, but we must also learn to accept defeat, specially knowing that in every sport there is always a winner and a loser.  In Chess, the same dynamics apply.  We all want to improve our strategic thinking to win, but just learn to accept to lose.  We all win games and we all lose games, even the Grandmasters.  Take a break from Chess if it's igniting those triggers.  Play against the computer for a while, study by reading books, and run the drills and chess puzzles. Once you relax come back to playing with others and try again.

You simply need some sturdier furniture.

I get mad too, though I've never broken anything.

I think there's an expectation mismatch going on here. If I go into a game thinking I'm a good player who's going to win, I'm going to get mad if I lose. If I think I'm a bad player who's going to lose, I probably won't get mad if I lose. It sounds like depressingly bad advice to suggest that you go into every game thinking you're going to lose, but at least you'll be pleasantly surprised some of the time.

Maybe if you go into games visualizing that you might win, but probably not, you won't get so angry. I hope this helps.

OP is still here and playing games. I wonder how he's doing these days? (btw, odd avatar)

Here's a very good short article on the subject of losing. There are also a lot more other techniques on how to deal on this subject that can be found on the net.  One never stops learning.  Get back up and raise your head high.
