I agree with the petition.

I don’t like the change either. If anything I would like to have seen the addition of a rating for longer games like 45/45 and 60 per side. Those time controls aren’t really “rapid.” Should 10 minutes per side be in the same rating classification as 90/30? I think not.

From the linked article: "In a recent review, we found that bullet chess ratings are consistently about 150 points lower than blitz ratings. To correct this, we are increasing bullet chess ratings for all active bullet users on the site by 150 points."

CPR's response: *Calculating . . .* Due to the shorter timer in bullet, bullet ratings should be expected to differ from blitz ratings. After all, the shorter timer in bullet increases the game's difficulty, as clock management takes on a greater importance, and time pressure is increased.

Adjusting the ratings to make blitz and bullet ratings equal would erroneously imply that blitz and bullet are equal in difficulty. In human terms, this is often referred to as a "spurious correlation".

In robot terminology, we merely call this an "error".
