Do them every single day without fail. Don't rush & use more time instead. don't  worry about the time so much cause it's better to take more time & get it correct.  Never go with the first thing that pops into ya head. All the bestbullet.png

I think there's a difference between tactic and puzzle skills. And I'd say there are some tricks for puzzles indeed which cannot really be applied to real games.

So, on chess.com puzzles always have only one solution. So if you see two good moves, only one of them is correct. Also sometimes you see a simple move (that you would play in a real game) that leads to a winning position, but is not really tactical, and then you know there's something else.

However, since puzzles at your rating are mostly captures and quick mates, I would recommend to focus on basic elements of tactics: forks, pins, etc.

Seirawan's "Winning Chess Tactics" book is a great resource that describes each tactic and has lots of puzzles to solve

You look for the best move possible, most likely getting a high piece and/or checking the king. check every piece though if youre not sure, and eventually youll become great at the puzzles.

Look for all possible checks and review each of them. Some of them will be obvious "I randomly lose a piece, this sucks" but if one seems to look like it goes somewhere, think ahead to see how it might play out. After that, look at all possible captures, again many ay be obviously bad, but the ones that go somewhere should again be looked at, whether they lead to checkmate or just winning relevant material. Then look for attacks that are forcing, things like checkmate threats, attacks to take or trap the queen, followed by rook, bishop/knight, etc. This becomes a pre-move checklist you look for first before thinking over other moves. You are looking for the most forcing plays that an opponent only has 1 out to, which leads to a position where you ideally jump into the next move for, etc. Either that, or if there were other plays, they all lead to you punishing them different ways, though generally the puzzle should be as forcing as possible, you are just scrolling down the list of moves most likely to make forcing replies.

What it helps in your games is help you add a quick screen over your own decisions before making a move, because now you see tactical opportunities and defenses, so you double check for things like a check that can jump in the middle of a sequence of moves to ruin an otherwise fine situation, etc. Now you realize pieces that don't look defended actually are defended, not be an immediate piece recapture, but by a tactic cleverly hidden underneath.

play and play, practise and practise.

If you're not planning to pay for the Chess.com membership, don't practice here. Free users have a limited puzzle count per day. Nowhere near enough to sustain the kind of skill growth you want to experience. Play on the other site. Don't ask me specifics about another site that offers free unlimited puzzles. But it does exist, if someone were to ask.

use and pay for chesscom's membership, the puzzles are the best, enjoy!!!

Play puzzles because they provide entertainment. They will not improve overall results for new players. They are not  representative of games or positions new players reach. Practicing puzzles and neglecting learning the elements that comprise the game - from start to finish- is actually detrimental to advancement.
Practice puzzles and become good at solving puzzles. Want to improve - spend 95% of study time elsewhere.
