This post continues to rank highly for a Google search for "London chess clubs". The easiest way to find a chess club in your immediate vicinity is the look at the ECF's club finder page - you can search by post code and choose how far you're willing to travel to get a list of clubs that might be meeting on the night you want.

The club finder thing is not great if you’re just in London temporarily. A lot of London clubs don’t really have a club night or their own venue (granted a few do) but if you’re just stopping by then one of the informal non-club options such as London Chess Community is a way better bet.
