Not a movie or TV series but a TV show. Wide World of Sports when it televised Fischer-Spassky in 1972.
Any movie or tv series that got you into chess ?

Queen's Gambit, but I love Columbo... "one more thing".
I played a little as a kid, not much as an adult until Queen's Gambit.

I didn't watched The Queens Gambit until last month. As we only got Netflix recently. But it was great. I did read the book by Walter Tevis before. The series did an excelent job translating the book into a mini series.

A couple of years ago my wife and I re-watched all episodes of Columbo. The episode "The most dangerous match" (1973) is the one that got me curious about chess. For the ones who never saw it.
In this episodes an American chess master has to face a chess master from another country. (Accent sounds Russian. But the country he represents is actually never named.) Anyway, he fears his opponent and even has nightmares about him. The day before the match they meet in a restaurant. And his opponent turns out to be a very friendly guy. And they decide to play a chessgame in the restaurant. And as neither of them have a chess set at hand they improvise. The checkered white and red table cloth becomes the board. Empty snail shells and olives become pawns. The pepper (black) and salt shaker (white) become the rooks. Vinegar jars, tabasco bottles, pepper grinders (Kings), nutmeg, blocks of cheese, etc become the other pieces.
It's not the best Columbo episode. But the one that is special to me.
