Winning Chess, by Irving Chernev and Fred Reinfeld. It's a great book for learning tactics. Each chapter covers a different idea: pins, knight forks, double attacks, skewers, etc. After reading this book as a teenager I became the best player at my high school.
Try a "search forums" for best beginner book or best video (upper right hand corner under the Post New Forum Topic). All these thread are archived so you'll probably find dozens of posts with recommendations. In the meantime, try the free Chess Mentor courses. Sure Chess.com is hoping you'll get hooked on the CM and sign up for premium, but that doesn't take away from the fact that they're really well done. Enjoy!
