You should open a ticket when encountering abusive members instead of posting it in the forums. You can provide the screenshot when staff get your ticket.

I've done so. Respectfully though, I'm not sure why sharing someone's use of hateful language should be censored here.

Nothing is really gained by sharing the specifics of what was said with the general community.

Negative advertising. Say someone googles chess.com live chess and gets a few (or a lot) of links to forum topics with similar images.

I thought it was funny though (I saw the image before it was removed) how his avatar looked like him and his wife smiling. What a nice guy right? But then in the chat he acted like a monkey hah.

A fair point, so long as they actually look into it.

Good point. Thank you. I guess the benefit for me is the assurance that there are in fact plenty of reasonable people around here.

I'm far more offended by smug people who try to sound superior to others than people who use little nasty words. You'll see me smiling on pictures too and I'm quite a moral individual, perhaps to a fault.

Just different perspectives on life.

In addition to the reasons already mentioned, a quotation of abusive language still contains abusive language - at least children won't care for the meta level.

There used to be a time when children were exposed to the horrors of poverty, sin, injustice and such through tales and public examples.

Now it's all [no need for expletives -- MOD] disney.

Well, I've never cursed and said nasty things to an opponent (in chess or other online games I've played, even as a teenager) in all caps (or otherwise). I might swear out loud and be really upset, but I never turn it to my opponent (or teammates as the case may be).

So yes, it's just different perspectives. From my POV it's incredibly childish. So to see a grown man in a picture, who apparently is a decent enough human being to attract a mate, act like a total monkey in the chat, it will always surprise me.
