Anyone else sick of hearing about alpha?

Yeah, that's why I switched to games that haven't been contaminated by computers yet.
If you get tired of alpha and normal chess then join us at the variants thread.
Seriously people trying to make a machine to "solve" chess and suck all the fun out of it...just to play God and stroke their own egos?
I mean... let's be honest... Alpha does make the gameplay a little more interesting, as well as some moves do make more sense. It brings me back to the days of studying Anderssen or Morphy... And I worked with a friend who made me just want to sac everything after working with him.
I am going to wait until BetaZero comes out, it will still have some bugs but at least it will be more stable.
I mean if it's god... I think you'd want to wait for OmegaZero...

It's not all about chess. Chess is nothing more than a test subject. A starting point for solving bigger problems than chess. This is how computer science works. reduce a problem in such a way so that you can solve it and then apply a generalized solution to other areas.

I suppose draughts was a test subject as well. The computer boffins managed to kill that game stone dead. Why can't they write programmes designed to invent a game that's better than chess? Now that would be interesting.

I find it mildly interesting from an AI perspective. At my age and level of play it will never be a concern as far as chess. I'm sure of one thing, however; there are implications nobody has seen that will emerge from this.

That wouldn't be useful at all unless you want to achieve something specific.
Google didn't created AlphaZero just for fun they do it because algorithms you use for chess can be generalized for more relevant problems. What you will find a long the journey will not only be useful for chess but for humanity itself.
Chess is just a good test subject.

creators of alpha wanted to get their machine in the news and the only way to do that was to cheat against stockfish.

Deep Blue also cheated against Kasparov.
IBM and Google playing the same game.
How did deep blue cheat v Kasparov?
